IVF medication finished this week & I’m a bit concerned

Hi everyone,

I’m 11 weeks pregnant today following an FET. I was taking Progynova tablets 4 times daily and using Utrogestan pessaries 3 times daily up until earlier this week. I didn’t feel comfortable just stopping them outright so I whittled down gradually over a few days I.e. tablets 4, 3, 2 and then 1 a day and the pessaries the same until I’d used the last ones.
It’s 2 days since finishing the medications and I’ve noticed a very small amount of brown spotting/discharge and now as the day has gone on some stomach pain.
I’m starting to worry now that finishing the medications has started my worst fear happening.... I can’t even say it.
I am going to see how things go overnight and will call the midwife tomorrow if I’m still concerned. I’m not due my next scan until 13 weeks.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar after finishing your IVF meds and what happened?

Thank you for reading.

Sorry I've not been through this but I didn't want to read and run.

How are you feeling today? Did you call the midwife?

Hi,

If it helps I stopped my cyclogest pessaries at just over 9 weeks following my fresh transfer this year. I phased off them over a few days and noticed brown spotting as soon as I stopped. This then turned in to a red bleed heavy at times bleed which started at just before 10 weeks and lasted until 11.5 weeks. It was honestly the worst experience!

I'm now just shy of 36 weeks pregnant with an incredibly active baby boy 😊

When I spoke to my clinic and midwife they advised that spotting and even bleeding is very common following stopping the pessaries. In my case, the pessaries contributed to a pocket of blood forming above my uterus which usually the body absorbs but in my case it burst.

It's easy to say not to worry, however it's impossible to not. Rest up, take it easy and if at any point you have concerns, call your midwife/EPU immediately.

Sending a huge virtual hug! X

@singleandttc - Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. So far today I haven’t had any further spotting (touch wood) and the stomach pain has reduced. I haven’t called the midwife because it seems to have settled down now I didn’t feel it was bad enough to contact them. But I won’t hesitate if over the weekend it starts again and gets worse.

@LolaSparkle - Thank you so much for your post this really has helped me. I have struggled to find any information on this online. I did wonder if stopping the pessaries and tablets has prompted this, it seemed too much of a coincidence otherwise. It’s good to know your clinic said it is common. I didn’t feel I could call my clinic because they have discharged me.
Huge congratulations on your pregnancy and best of luck with your baby boy!

I am sorry I don't have any useful knowledge about this (I am reducing my dose atm but still on some). Just wanted to wish you the best, hope all settles down and goes well x
