Bleeding gums dentist not helpful - 6 months

Hi

Nearly 6 months pregnant and have been suffering from bleeding gums since early days of pregnancy. Every single morning and night.

Went to dentist they did a scale and polish and I told her I had been using Corsydl medicated for a few days, she said to be wary using it as it causes staining but does help with bleeding.

I stopped using it but now at a loss of how to combat the bleeding somehow so I atleast have some days without it? Its driving me nuts.

Any recommendations on what to use? Previous experiences? Will it stop after birth? 😭

I had bleeding gums during pregnancy, I didn't get it checked out though so at least you have! Mine stopped pretty soon after birth, I found using the Colgate gum mouthwash and a really soft manual toothbrush and the Colgate gum toothpaste (not an ad, just the only one that tasted okay haha) helped keep it under control. I didn't floss which I know is bad, but it seemed to make it worse, I carried on with that until about a fortnight PP when my gums felt fine again and went back to using my usual and flossing again- touch wood had no issues since. I would keep an eye, try some of the gum stuff, and if it seems to be getting worse or if it's painful etc maybe speak to someone again.

I started flossing twice a day and using interdental brushes. It really helped.

I get this and I switch to corsodyl toothpaste and also floss regularly. The toothpaste leaves your teeth so so clean and shiny and removes all stains. It doesn't taste great, but you can't have it all!

It’s really normal in pregnancy. There isn’t a massive amount you can do.

Thanks for your help everyone!

@Sugarbeanie do you remember which colgate mouthwash you used?

The joys of pregnancy 🤣

Same here! So frustrating. I’ve been using an electric toothbrush which also alerts you when putting too much pressure on your teeth/gums and also flossing. It’s helped but also a really normal part of pregnancy. You’ll be fine once baby is out, just try and manage for now.

I’ve had this through most of my pregnancy too. Now 37+4 so hoping it stops soon! Like a lot of previous posters I’ve been using the corsodyl toothpaste, although when I’ve not been able to get it in the Asda shop I’ve used Colgate too. Also been using the corsodyl daily mouthwash if you’re able to find that? It doesn’t stain your teeth the same way the medicated one does and it’s a bit more pleasant to taste as well.
