7 week scan dates at 6 weeks

Hi all,
Not sure where to start, I have had 2 Misscarraiges 1 blighted ovum one normal loss at about 10 weeks and since had my beaitiful DD now 6. We have been TTC for a while and I'm now officially 7w+3d however, I track ovulation BBT etc and by my dates I should be 7w+1d. I have had regular spotting after a bowl movements for 5 days. I was referred to EPU and had a scan yesterday (abdominal) they put me at 6weeks, they were very casual about it and saying all is fine but I'm just not convinced. How can I be 1 week behind? Makes no sence. As there was a 'visible pulse' and CRL was 4.9 they were not interested in my concerns and I've been discharged and told unless I have loads of blood and severe cramping (ie a misscarraige) they won't schedule a follow up scan. So I'm interested to know if anyone out there has had the same scenario at an early stage been backdated a week and all been OK and you are not just off with your dates (ie scan was wrong or inaccurate) and also times where it has resulted in a loss. I know I just have to be paitent but I just can't help but feel something is wrong. I rather prepare for the worst and if that doesn't happen then its good news.

They are measuring something pretty small through skin, muscle, and varying amounts of fat.
It doesnt need to be very far out to change the dates.

DS1 had a scan at 6 weeks, dates agreed with me but no heartbeat. Back 2 weeks later, had a heartbeat, progressed one week (so I was 8 weeks by my calcs, but they said 7). At my 12 week scan, dates lined up again with the first scan, and my dates. He is now 11 years old.

I hope you have a similarly successful scan at 12 weeks. The next 6 weeks are going to be tough, and constant knicker watch. I hope the pass smoothly and quickly Flowers

Thabk you RedCatBueCat your scans sound concerning at the time too. I asked the Sonogropher if as its abdominal the measurements were accurate and she said they may be 1 mm out but you are 100% not 7 weeks but then she kind of contradicted herself saying you won't know the proper date till 12 weeks therefore suggesting her dates could be wrong so that confused me. I think that its just the bleeding if I wasn't spotting I'd not be so concerned but its making me think its destined to fail ☹

I can’t offer much reassurance but just joining as a similar thing happened to me. I thought I was 6+6 at my private early scan but they said I was probably more like late in the 5th week, as baby was only 2.5mm but there was a heart beat. The sonographer was very reassuring and said not everyone ovulates on the same day, and she ‘hand on heart’ believes it’s just a younger baby than I thought. She said the heartbeat is a good sign.

I’ve had Brown spotting on and off which I think is mainly from the scan, sex and the odd bit of constipation! But I’m going to mention it at my midwife appointment on Thursday (the booking appointment) and hopefully she will let me have a scan. I really want to check progress before 12 weeks!

Hope things go ok for you. What I am hearing a lot is that early scan measurements are not very accurate. Keep us updated ☺️

Oh also - I got the feeling at my private scan that they don’t want to say their dating isn’t accurate, maybe in case people complained and said it’s a waste of money. It’s so small at such an early stage. The sonographer seemed sure it was just a younger baby to account for the size, but then also said ‘you will get an accurate date at your dating scan’ which is kind of like saying it’s not accurate!

@Cafeaulait27, your experience sounds exactly the same as mine except mine, I have my first midwife apt on Monday so will chat to her about it although I'm sure she will just pass me off as well. I'm thinking about having another private scan this weekend to see what they say. I think for me I'd rather just know ASAP if its not grown or there is a problem. 🤞 that all is well for you Im sure the midwife will refer you to EPU if you are concerned and had spotting Flowers. As a note of reassurance I did have spotting with my DD upto around 12 weeks so it does happen.
