Infrared Heated Yoga during pregnancy

Hi there,

I am 19 weeks pregnant, (low risk pregnancy) and a keen Yogi.

For the past few months I haven't been doing yoga (mailbly due to sickness) But I am feeling alot better and really keen to get back into my yoga.

My concern is that my local studio has infrared heated classes only. Not as hot as Hot yoga but around 28-30 Degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit)

is this a safe temperature for baby? and is infrared ok for bub? Any experiences would be really appreciated. Thank you!

I don't think the infrared would be an issue, it's the heat you need to worry about. Pre lockdown I was loving hot yoga, then obviously it all stopped. The studio has only just opened up again and now I'm pregnant I won't be going back. This makes me really sad as I love it but don't want to take the risk of overheating (studio is 35 or 40 degrees depending on the class). 28 degrees maybe isn't too bad depending on how strenuous it is, basically you just don't want to raise your core temperature.

I think it might be too hot tbh, it's very easy to get overheated. I'd speak to your studio about it - the manager of my local one said it was fine to attend gentle & warm classes provided it was a regular attendee but the hot and power classes wouldn't be suitable. They'd need to give alternative poses too so it depends on whether they'd be willing to do that.

I'm hoping my studio will still be going when I'm ready to get back to it, it's not reopened yet 😭
