Gender scan, is this right?

I had my gender scan privately at 16 weeks.
The lady said that nothing is 100% but she was very sure that it is a boy, and showed me a close up of the penis shot. I was so happy! But since I've found out that sometimes scans are wrong!
I have my NHS scan in four weeks. I've heard that both private and NHS gender guesses can be wrong.
I've added some of my scan pictures.
Is this definitely a boy?
It'd be great if anyone could say with any certainty! Any sonographers out there?
Thanks :-)

@Isadora2007

I think the point some people are missing is that those saying it should be known as a sex scan and not a gender one ARE the same people wanting sex to be a biological term so that others cannot railroad the rights of biological women by using their gender to equate their sex. I agree this thread is not the time or place though and the scans are indeed called gender scans which is not the OPs fault.
This! Finally, someone who can think properly! #WomenAreReal
Tadpolesandfroglets · 28/09/2020 10:27

@Isadora2007 Thank you, the voice of reason. I don't think OP quite gets it though, massively contradicting herself, disagreeing and then agreeing with me and then wildly hashtaging #womenarereal is just hilarious. I gave up, you can't educate some people. It may be not the right place to do it but it's an important and valid point.

OP. You've completely misunderstood what previous posters were saying. They were making the same distinction you are.

Lol, I get it. As the lady said, the scans are called Gender Scans. I didn't name them!!!
loutypips · 28/09/2020 10:40

That looks exactly like the scan of my dd!

Eek! Confusing! Gonna have to work our some girls names just in case!

I see you've had plenty of helpful replies already but yeah, looks definitely like a boy to me, too!

The people who came on here just to lecture her on her use of the word 'gender'. Get a life. We ALL knew what she meant. You don't need to go lecturing people everywhere you go. Find something more useful to do.

You clearly just saw the word 'gender' in the title and thought 'YESSSS I CAN HAVE A RANTTTTTT' and came in. Honestly, just think about what you're doing. There's a time and a place.

It’s actually important that we notice these little insidious ways in which sex and gender DO and can get mixed up though. And the NHS is bad for it indeed. I often score out gender and put sex instead of on paper forms. So if I had a “gender scan” I would make a point of saying I’m having a scan to see if the sex of the baby can be identified as well as using the colloquial term.

BigusBumus · 28/09/2020 11:10

Sex / gender..whatevvvvvvveeeeeer.

But "potty shot"??? Urgh thats grim. Is it really called that??? Fucking nasty.

loutypips · 28/09/2020 13:55

Yep. Didn't ask to find out but at the 20w scan the first image was basically the same as that one! Even at another scan at around 32w before the doctor was saying "the baby" afterwards it was "he".
I was amazed that "he" was actually a girl!

LRHRN · 28/09/2020 14:51

I've attached my 17 week scan of my little girl from my GENDER SCAN. It's definitely different to yours.
I've had 3 scans since and she's definitely a girl so fingers crossed yours is correct.
For people asking, I was allowed to take my husband and 2 children in with me for private scans (meet my miracle) and in the last few days Derby Hospital has started allowing partners for scans too.

Some people have got too much time on their hands worrying about wether it's called gender or sex it's all the same. You are born and boy or a girl, what you choice to identify as is entirely up to you.

Thankyou, that's really useful :-) It does indeed look very different! Fingers crossed :-)

LRHRN · 28/09/2020 15:23

Unfortunately a few people don't actually come on here to be helpful.
Like @LindaEllen said, they see the title and their little preachy faces light up and think "yes we've got one"
You know the saying "opinions are like a••eholes" 🙄

DappledThings · 28/09/2020 19:37

We get it, you think biology and science are meaningless and feel the need to tell everyone about this
Eh? Those who care about the correct uses of the words sex and gender are exactly those who DON'T think biology and science are meaningless.
