Reaction after steroid injections

Hi :)

I’m just wondering if anyone had been given steroids during pregnancy and had any strange reactions?

I had a second shot of dexamethasone yesterday. I am going in tomorrow for a csection at 37 weeks due to breech and reduced growth so was given steroids to help babies lungs.

I have woke up today and my face is bright red and my arms feel hot to touch and are bright red like I have sunburn? Baby is also a little bit quiet compared to normal so just keeping an eye on it for the next hour or 2 and see how she goes before I call triage.

Has anyone else had the same reaction to steroids in pregnancy?

No, I had them in 4 of my 5 pregnancies & other than it stopping me sleeping I never had anything else. I'd give your labour ward or MAU a ring & let them know.

I felt terrible after mine- pain in the muscles at the injection sites and just general grim feeling. I was reassured this was normal but I didn't have quieter babies or the symptoms you describe. Worth checking with Midwife

Just couldn’t sleep, definitely call for reassurance xx

Thanks ladies :) I called them earlier and went in. She said the bright red reaction is pretty normal and will die down in the next 24 hours or so.

Hooked up to the ctg and her heartbeat and everything was fine and I had a few movements when I was in. She’s still quiet tonight but I can definitely feel her.

Iv to go in for 8am tomorrow morning anyway for my section! Ahhh wish me luck don’t think there will be much sleeping tonight xx
