How long was your labour with your second child?

5 hrs

icode · 23/09/2020 23:13

6 hours. But was induced by drip.

CostaCosta · 23/09/2020 23:24

8

Gerdticker · 23/09/2020 23:27

I’m told it’s typically about half the length of your first?

JustAddCoffee91 · 23/09/2020 23:32

3 hours from the first contraction... my 1st was about 21 hours

FriedasCarLoad · 23/09/2020 23:42

First was 8 hours and a homebirth. Second was 28 hours ending in an EMCS.

Sorry, I know it's not an encouraging story, but I think it's better to know this happens. I'd been so reassured that second labours were easier and usually half the time, that my experience left me shocked.

cryptonaut · 24/09/2020 13:44

@FriedasCarLoad this doesn't fill me with hope! My first was 42 hours from waters breaking, 22 hours of which was established labour, ending up with forceps (narrowly avoiding EMCS). Really hoping that second will be much quicker!

unmarkedbythat · 24/09/2020 13:47

2 hours 45 minutes. In total, 15 minutes longer than with my first, but the second stage was just 4 minutes compared to 75 minutes first time round! Best birth of all of them for me.

babychange12 · 24/09/2020 13:49

Too fast! He ended up born in the car park 🤣

itshappened · 24/09/2020 14:06

First was 48 hrs and second over 55hrs.... But I know that is extremely unusual so shouldn't be cause for concern for you. for some reason my waters never break naturally so I end up with very a long active labour and it takes hours for my body to progress from 9cms dilated. Lucky me!

Wowcherarestalkingme · 24/09/2020 14:07

45 minutes

FolkSongSweet · 24/09/2020 14:08

@FriedasCarLoad that’s quite a scary thought! Do you know why your second one was longer? Was the baby big/back to back/in a weird position? I’m aiming for a home birth after a quick and straightforward first birth, but worried this could happen to me.

Thesnowfellfast · 24/09/2020 14:11

Induced at midnight, was at 6cm by 6am, delivered baby after 3 pushes at 07.49.

mumof1babe · 24/09/2020 14:13

3 hours. 40 of active labour and 4 mins pushing. First labour 8 hours exactly from waters breaking and about 15 mins of pushing

Comfortablycrazy · 24/09/2020 14:19

First was 4 hours from first contraction to birth (hospital, waterbirth) and second was 7 hours from first contraction to birth (breech homebirth)

Mummapenguin20 · 24/09/2020 14:23

1st 4 hours
2nd 7 mins from first contraction 3 pushes
3rd 45 mins 2 pushes xx

ohdearymemumof3 · 24/09/2020 19:47

2nd 3hrs
3rd 2hrs 40mins

Gerdticker · 24/09/2020 20:39

@Mummapenguin20

Oh my gosh I HAVE to know more!

Your second labour - please, tell the story?! Extraordinary! Are we talking 7 mins active labour, or from first twinge?

Mummapenguin20 · 24/09/2020 20:52
