Keep being asked why I'm having cesarean.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I'm having an elective cesarean (first baby, maternal choice) went to the hospital today and was sent home to come back tomorrow. 2 members of hospital staff (health assistant and nurse) asked in front of other patients why I'm having a cesarean, 1 said 'why,? Is your baby breech then?' Another said 'why, just didn't fancy childbirth did you?'. Is it just me or does anyone think this is very unprofessional, they should be able to see on my notes the reason why and even if they didn't know it could be a very personal reason.

I don't mind if close friends ask the reason and many have and I am open about it i just find this very unprofessional, AIBU?

I think it is very unprofessional, especially the things they said to you. I would just respond each time with ‘it is all in my notes’. Keep repeating until they get the message. You are having a baby, it doesn’t mean you are open to be interrogated by every heath care worker who comes along.
I have read that lot’s of women have experienced the endless questions BTW. It makes you wonder do they actually read patients notes at all?

That’s very rude and unprofessional, you should make a complaint. As far as I’m aware you don’t need to have a reason - it’s your body your choice.

Especially the comment ‘just didn’t fancy childbirth did you’, that is so uncalled for. It’s basically the old too posh to push comment.

It’s perfectly reasonable In my eyes to just not ‘fancy’ childbirth - it’s painful, uncertain and sometimes terrifying. I want a c section because vaginal births terrify me - and that’s my choice!

I hope you don’t get any more comments like that. Unfortunately a lot of people seem to think women’s bodies are public property!
