For those who EBF until 1 year, when did your period return? During breastfeeding or did you have to stop completely for it to return. Thank you.

@emelsie fed on demand (mostly every 2-3hrs but as often as required and for as long as wanted), co-slept to 9 months so she had free access all night and never expressed or used formula. 100% fed from breast, and not come close to sleeping through yet.
It is most unfair!!!

4 weeks both times! Fed until 8 months for my first and still feeding at 9 months this time.

I fed ds until he was 2.5 and my period came back after around 9 months. My dd is almost 2 and still breastfeeding and my period came back after around 16 months. They were both ebf (accept for solids from 6 months, obviously)

Mine returned when she was 18m but very light and 6 weeks apart. I only had two of them then fell pregnant again! With my oldest they came back at about 7m but she was combi fed after 6m so I think that's why.

HelloRose · 22/09/2020 22:03

6 months
DS started sleeping longer at night and returned shortly after that

Thneedville · 22/09/2020 22:12

10 months, when I went back to work, so would have been feeding first thing, last thing (and all through the night...) only.

Not really EBF once they are weaning though!

randomsabreuse · 22/09/2020 22:24

DC1 gave me 5 months, DC2 was at 6 weeks which I strongly suspect was related to him getting bronchiolitis at 4 weeks. I was not impressed at all! Especially as the little bugger was feeding all night when he recovered.

olderthanyouthink · 22/09/2020 22:39

Nearly 22 months

emelsie · 23/09/2020 07:13

@Megan2018 yes it is nice to get the long break from periods, I wonder what makes it vary so much , I suppose it's down to hormone levels in a different people.

Damnpeskykids · 23/09/2020 07:26

I ebf DS1 until he was 6 months, then gradually cut down to just night feeding whilst he was weaning, my period didn't come back at all & I fell pregnant with DD when he was 11 months! Had my first period when she was 15 months old so about 2 and a bit years!

beth821 · 23/09/2020 07:29

Thanks everyone, that's very helpful! Yes by EBF I mean with solids past 6 months, just no formula supplementation.

8 months both times.

MattBerrysHair · 23/09/2020 08:02

4 weeks with both DC. I was pretty miffed tbh.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/09/2020 08:08

7 months both times. DD2 was conceived I one carefree night when DD1 was 12 months, feeding continued to 17 months. DD2 had night feedings until 2.5 yea

tyrannosaurustrip · 23/09/2020 08:18

10/11 months-ish, almost exactly 28 days after I went back to work which was also when I night weaned. But she was still feeding a lot in the day DH took parental leave and we ended up meeting for lunch most days so she was still feeding 3-4 times a day.

I was part of a large whatsapp group that came out of a breastfeeding meet-up and the median seemed to be firmly around a year, give or take a few months.

steppemum · 23/09/2020 08:22

about the same time as I started weaning, so around 6 months.

They stopped night feeds around then too

All milk came from bf until 12-18 months.
