I've already applied for matenity allowance but now I am so confused about SMP. Basically I worked for my last employer for nearly 2 years but they made me redundant when I was about 10 weeks pregnant, so I thought because I hadn't been employed into the 15th week before the baby is due I wouldn't get SMP, is that correct??

I also started a temp job when I was around 20 weeks pregnant and am still here at the moment, I'm 28 weeks now but again I think I haven't been with them long enough to get SMP?

I am just so confused with it all 😪 and I've heard maternity allowance has a massive delay at the moment so I'm freaking out about that. Has anyone applied recently and how long did it take?

Xx

I don't think you'd be entitled to SMP. I'm getting maternity allowance. Applied when I was around 32 weeks, had it confirmed within 3 weeks I think it was, and its my due date today, so fairly recent. You have plenty of time, if you get concerned nearer the time, so but the time you're 35/36 weeks pregnant, just give them a phone

I applied for maternity allowance and had a text within a couple of days to say I will hear back within 4 weeks, I'm now in my forth week of waiting so fingers crossed I get a response this week!

Thank you! That makes me feel a bit better that it came in 3 weeks. I didn't think I would be entitled to SMP but the forms left me so confused haha x

You'd only be entitled to SMP if you are employed with the same employer as you were when you fell pregnant, so it would unfortunately be MA
