Sweeps...Do they work?

My due date is today, and I've been offered a sweep on Friday....They dont seem to have a lot of scientific backing though, or evidence that they're really successful.

I'm keen for as little intervention as possible....but will consider a sweep if they work.

What are your thoughts on sweeps? Do they work, or am I wasting my time?

I had 2 with dd and neither worked

BrizNiz · 20/09/2020 18:39

Didn't work for me

I had two, they didn't work for me. Induction worked for me first time for me.

A sweep worked with my first child went into labour shortly after. Didn't need one with my second .

I had two that both worked within 24hrs for each DC.

I had a sweep with DC4. I had the sweep done at 10am, went into labour at 5am the next morning, and she was born at 9.20am ,so less than 24 hours after the sweep :)

50/50 and only if your cervix is already favourable anyway

Moonflower12 · 20/09/2020 21:30

I had a sweep and had DC3 in 27 minutes! The midwife was as surprised as I was!

As PP said it depends if you have a favourable cervix. If it's not gonna play ball then a sweep won't help, I'd put it at a rough guess of 50/50.
