Weight Gain - 19 weeks

Morning all.

Just wondering what your weight gain was like around 19weeks / in the 2nd trimester?

I lost weight in the first trimester due to sickness/tiredness/heartburn... All the nice pregnancy symptoms really. I'm 19 weeks now and I am still down 2lb from where I started off.

With my 1st I didn't lose any weight at the start, and steadily gained about 15lb in the 37 weeks I was pregnant. (daughter was 7lb at birth) I did however weigh less after birth than I did before falling pregnant, and I was very tired and anemic afterward too.

I am going to voice my concerns with the midwife at the next appointment as I wonder if too little weight gain impacted my post birth recovery.

I don't track calories etc, I just eat when I'm hungry and try not to eat things high in salt and saturated fats.

I lost quite a bit of weight in pregnancy, my midwife told me to go from my lowest pregnancy weight rather than my prepregnancy weight. She weighed me a few times to reassure me that I was gaining enough month by month rather than worrying about start to finish.

I was back at my prepregnancy weight around 18 weeks and was about 1 stone up at the end and had a healthy and happy baby girl. I returned to my prepregnancy weight within the first week after having her. I was on and off throughout my pregnancy which meant I only really gained baby +placenta +fluid.

The only time I had to keep an eye on what I ate was at the beginning of my third trimester when I started losing weight again. My pregnancy sickness returned full force and I wasn't able to drink enough for the hot weather at the time. Making a conscious effort to drink more and added an extra snack in the afternoon when I was a low risk of being sick helped.

I'm definitely aware of what I am drinking aswell as I have found I feel extra tired if I don't drink enough.

Thank you for the input so far, reassuring to know its not a uncommon thing to gain little.

Hey guys,
So when I first found out I was pregnant I weighted 13st 6 pounds, I then lost weight due to all the sickness in first trimester.
I'm now 18 weeks and I'm 13st 12 pounds so I've only gained 6 pounds!
I'm worried that it's to little... my middle is getting bigger and I heard baby's heartbeat at 16 week appointment which was healthy and strong.
It's my first pregnancy... should I contact my midwife next week?

Did you get weighed in at your booking appointment? Have you had your 16 week appointment?

With my first I was weighed at every appointment xx

I'm 18+4 and have lost 2lbs. But then my bmi is 45 so this is a very good thing! I've lost my appetite a little over the last few weeks. I've never been weighed at any of my appointments although I did tell my midwife what my weight was over the phone for my booking in?

OnNaturesCourse · 20/09/2020 01:13

I did that over the phone too, but the 2nd part of my appointment was in the office and she took my height and weight there too.

With my first I had it taken at my midwife appointments, each time if I remember correctly.

I have my 20 week scan in 10 or so days, if I've not gained anything by then I'll mention it to them. See what they suggest. Not got my next midwife appointment for some time now.

My bmi is about 23.5 pre pregnancy, I think.

I’m 21 weeks so pregnant and so far not put any Weight on, lost a little in fact. had no sickness so don’t know how I haven’t put any on but baby’s growing well and consultant isn’t worried.

emilyvictoria17 · 20/09/2020 13:19

I’m 20 weeks and only gained about 2lbs so far, glad you posted this as I was a bit worried about not gaining enough. I was a ‘normal’ BMI before pregnancy and have been eating my usual diet and keeping up usual exercise... I didn’t have any sickness either so no weight loss at the beginning
and nothing to account for not gaining enough. Don’t think this says much for how many of my usual calories came from booze before!! Hmm I’m going to mention to my midwife but I had a scan last week and all seemed fine so trying not to overthink - from reading other threads it seems like there’s a huge variance and as long as you’re getting the right nutrition I’m sure all will be fine x

Thanks everyone. I'm not worried as such as I know baby has been doing OK at my scans, and kicks up a storm most nights. I am however concerned about a repeat of my post birth experience with my first. The day I left the hospital I think I was down almost a stone than my pre pregnancy weight, and I do believe I dropped more in the first month before piling it back on.
