How do midwife appointments work now?

Iv just found out I'm pregnant (5w 2 days), its my third pregnancy, I don't imagine it's going to be the same as the other two pregnancies.
How do midwife's appointments work now? Over the phone? Do I still go in? Video call?
Will my DH be able to go the the scans?

Mine have been on the phone up until 25 weeks and then they have switched back to face to face and my partner had not been allowed to any of my scans. Sone trusts were loosening this but now with a possible second spike coming I suspect they'll go back to only women at scans and most early appointments on the phone. They take your weight/bloods etc that you'd normally do at h e booking appointment after the 12 week scan now x

I'm only 14 weeks now.
Only had 1 appt to book in which was over the phone.
Scan still around 12 weeks but no partners allowed.
Next appt in October over the phone...no idea when I'll see someone!

Good luck. Hopefully the changes will not be as stressful if you know what to expect.
I got abit worried at first as it's my first pregnancy and I felt quite unsupported.

8 weeks face to face booking in, 16 weeks phone. 24 weeks will be face to face. Partner not allowed at 12 week scan or any appointments but could come for 20 week scan

Riggles78 · 18/09/2020 20:34

I’ve had all of mine face to face (booking in, 12w scan and 16w midwife appointment) but husband hasn’t been allowed in to either appointments or scans so far. Apparently he will be allowed in to the 20w scan in a couple of weeks but we’re not holding out hope for that with recent news.
From what I’ve seen on here it really varies from trust to trust as to whether you will have face to face or over the phone. For scans I would call the sonography reception to check if you’re allowed someone with you as the official hospital website for us currently says no but my midwife and the maternity unit Facebook page say that you are allowed for the 20w scan.

Booking it appointment was over the phone but had to go hospital for bloods etc

12 week scan as normal but alone

16 weeks I have to have GTT test (second baby) and they'll do my bloods, blood pressure etc whilst there

16week appointment over the phone

20 week scan as normal

That's how ours is working right now, I'm only 13 weeks so not sure on later on in pregnancy Smile

Currently 15wks, booking appt and 15wk appts were over the phone with a trip to the gp surgery to give urine sample and bloods. 12 week scan I could have my OH with me. Just masks all round. Apparently all other midwife appts will be F2F and the 20 wk scan also allows OH. I'm in Bristol if that helps Smile

Depends entirely on where you are. My care this time has hardly been different. Only difference has been booking in was over the phone, only went in the next day for bloods etc. Husband can't come to appointments, or 12 week scan but was allowed to my 20 week scan.

All mine have been face to face (been pregnant since before the lockdown and throughout it), midwife masked up etc and quite quick going through everything (not sure if that’s because it’s my third or because they wanted me out quickly). DH hasn’t been able to come to any scans. Home births were cancelled for a while but I believe they’re back on now

Good morning,
I am almost 23 weeks and things really have changed.
Midwife appointments over the phone til 25 weeks. Scans, I had to attend alone. Husbands not allowed.
I'm dreading when it's time to actually give birth. Really want my man there every step of the way. But with all the rules in place, I dont know.

AegonT · 19/09/2020 09:24

Mine should all be in person except booking (which was all the questions on the phone then bloods, height and weight in person at the hospital the following week) and I'm allowed to bring my husband to the scans.

Snorlax86 · 19/09/2020 09:28

I think each hospital/trust has been doing something different so definitely worth checking with your local one.

All of my appts have been face to face and partners are allowed for the scan but have to wait outside until you go into the room and then leave whilst you have any other check ups done.

My booking in app was over the phone and then I had my dating scan, which my partner was not allowed to attend. I then had a 16 week app at the gp with my midwife face to face (I'm sure I've seen her twice but can think when between booking and 16 weeks as I needed to get notes before scan).
My 20 week scan my partner was allowed to attend and then I would have physically seen midwife again at 24 weeks but antenatal clinic over ran at the hospital so I didn't end up seeing her.
I think it seems to differ in different areas :)

Congratulations x

I think it depends on what hospital you attend. I’ve had one appointment over the phone & the rest have all been in person.

Lulubon · 19/09/2020 11:25

I’m 32 weeks. Booking app was over the phone but all midwife + consultant apps have been face to face - No partners at scans

Stef92 · 19/09/2020 11:49

It all depends on your trust/area. We've just been put on local lockdown after being told my midwife appointments would be face to face and hubby could attend the 20 week scan. I now have no idea what will happen here.

Amjk · 19/09/2020 12:30

@Catsandkittens638297
I’m 15 weeks pregnant and I had all my appointments at the hospital. My partner wasn’t allowed to come to the appointments, however restrictions were lifted so he was allowed to the scans. I think it may depend on your hospital but I’m sure he’ll be allowed to the scans.
