Quick question even with irregular periods or ovulating late will your 12 week scan still be accurate to how far along you are in pregnancy?

Yeah they do it from measurements so you could go and they'll say you're 11+4 or 13+1 etc from what I gather not got mine for a month or so yet x

mumsofboys · 17/09/2020 20:23

I have irregular usually. Long cycles. Ovulate late.

I knew my dates would change by about 2 weeks and they did. Had to go
Back 2 weeks later for the 12 week scan.

Molly1001 · 17/09/2020 20:31

@mumsofboys so we’re your scan dates accurate to when you conceived?x

mumsofboys · 17/09/2020 21:09

@Molly1001 the exact day I ovulated. Day 24/36 day cycle

Molly1001 · 17/09/2020 21:15

Sorry I’m confused so do you mean the scan date was accurate to your last lmp? Because scans are measured from lmp arnt they x

We have the first day of the last period. The day of LH spike and the day of the temperature dip before the rise. So we are pretty much 100% on the day of ovulation and conception. We’ve got 1 date from the NHS website calculator, another date from the private scan we had at 10 weeks, and another date from the midwife. At least we have a rough week...

sarahc336 · 17/09/2020 21:23

They book your 12 week scan using e date of your last period but the 12 week scan is your dating scan so then they will measure the baby and give you a more accurate pregnancy duration and estimated due date so scans use the baby itself to go by. You only use the date of your last period up until the 12 week scan as a rough guess as this is the only concrete date they have prior to the scan xx

Molly1001 · 17/09/2020 21:34

@sarahc336 right I see so on the 9th April I had a scan I was 9 weeks 4 days would that of been from conception? Just because I thought for the first 2 weeks we arnt actually pregnant, so I was told for a conception date work back 38 weeks from your given due date is this correct?x

mumsofboys · 17/09/2020 21:39

@Molly1001 no as I have long cycles and ovulate late.

A 'normal' cycle is 28 days meaning you usually ovulate around day 12-14

I however ovulated day 24 so I was due 4 January by lmp. Reality 14th jan

Molly1001 · 17/09/2020 21:42

I see now so did your scan date give you a due date of 14th Jan or the 4th x

Hello..I'm new here and this is my first pregnancy. I'm 6 weeks 2 days pregnant and had an early pregnancy scan a couple of days ago. They found 2 sacs but one was smaller measured at 5 weeks and 4 days with no yolk sac..has anyone experienced something like this and did it turn out to be twins?

mumsofboys · 17/09/2020 22:28

@Molly1001 14th so it fell in with the day I actually Conceived rather than lmp

mumsofboys · 17/09/2020 22:30

@Dabelous
Maybe start a new thread to get more people to see your question, From what I've seen on here twins can have a different measurement as one is usually smaller

sarahc336 · 17/09/2020 22:34

No it must be dated back to the first day of your period now I think about it as when I went for my scan I was only dated 2 days ahead of my estimated date from using my period and that's why a pregnancy is dated as 40 weeks. I don't think they can ever give you an actual conception date really as everyone will implant at different points xx

Molly1001 · 17/09/2020 22:37

@sarahc336 yes I thought that, I was told 40 weeks is from lmp and 38 weeks back from eatamited due date is approx conception date

I heard early dating scan is more accurate, say week 7 as babies grow at a certain rate mm per day that early, at 12w it's going to be slightly less accurate as there are larger variations between sizes. I measured almost a week ahead at 12w scan but as I'm IVF pregnancy I know exactly my transfer/implantation day +-1 day so they kept my initial due date as calculated by IVF dates they said they are more accurate.

mumsofboys · 18/09/2020 10:18

@Viletta I'm jerking my actual dates in the back of my head too 🤣 hoping he'll not be late and will follow the dates I know!
