It's driving me mad! Was almost in tears last night I just couldn't sleep because of it, partner massaged my legs for a bit which did help but is there anything else I can try? It's so frustrating! Only get it when I'm pregnant!

It really is frustrating! The only thing that helped me was taking an ibuprofen.

TTCAbroad · 17/09/2020 13:38

I'm experiencing the same thing at this exact moment. It's horrible. I will also be extremely grateful if anyone has any suggestions Sad

I get restless legs all the time (not pregnant though) and saw another thread on here a few weeks back about restless legs. Someone suggested magnesium oil spray, I've not tried it yet but it may help.

Frazzlerock · 17/09/2020 14:09

I get it in my left leg in the evening when watching TV. I find a long walk around the house helps, going up and down the stairs.
Although I struggle getting up the stairs now at 30 weeks!

Definitely magnesium spray. You can get it from Holland and Barrett or try Amazon. Tingles when you apply but it works very well and can be washed off.

Lurchermom · 17/09/2020 15:46

I get RL (but not pregnant) - the magnesium oil didn't work for me but I know it does for some. I find washing my legs in cool water helps (shower head) and doing stretches, but obviously only what is comfortable for you. I just do basic stretches for my calves, nothing fancy.

I’m pregnant but I get this anyway, massages definitely help me and I also find doing a squat for as long as I can really helps as my legs just feel exhausted after and the restlessness goes for a bit. Obvious depends how pregnant you are and what you are able to do xx

Drinking tonic water is great for restless legs. I get them even when not pregnant and it was my partners mum told me to give it a try as it made a big difference for her!
I can't stand the taste of it personally but I can suffer through a glass or two before bed when it helps stop them! X

Oh i feel your pain!! Had it so much during this pregnancy especially at night, midwife then put me on iron tablets and now its stopped. Now 33 weeks wish i had them sooner x

Yellowbeansontoast · 17/09/2020 16:07

I feel you, have been getting them lots, too. Only thing that helps me is getting up and walking around for a bit. My partner who gets them loads, too swears by a massage or a hot bath, but I've never found those particularly helpful.

frustratedstep · 17/09/2020 19:14

Thank you everyone, I'll give the suggestions a try definitely. It's just such a horrible feeling! It is worse when I'm tired but of course I go round in circles because I can't sleep with restless legs... 😩

The only thing that helped for me was a bath with plenty of Epsom salts before bed, and if I didn’t have a bath would just put my feet in a bowl of water with the salts. At my 28 week scan I found out my iron was really low and after being on iron tablets I haven’t had restless legs once so could be that xx

Gardenermumtobe · 17/09/2020 20:30

I had the same thing, my midwife said my iron levels were borderline and as I had heard low iron levels could be a cause of restless legs so I asked if I could be put on them. They stopped within about a week and now I only get them very occasionally just before bed. Perhaps you could try increasing the iron in your diet to see if it makes a difference? Red meat is supposed to be the best thing for it. I tried magnesium spray, homeopathic magnesium tablets and soap at the end of the bed but none of those things made much of a difference. Good luck, hope it gets better, it's so horrible!

Ibuprofen isn't recommended in pregnancy though x

Magnesium oil spray and a pillow in between your knees/thighs when lying on your side 👍🏻

sarahc336 · 20/09/2020 07:51

Get your iron checked, I get restless legs whilst pregnant when my iron goes too low xx

kirinm · 20/09/2020 08:01

You can get magnesium spray from Holland & Barretts which helped me a bit when I had RL in pregnancy. And I also took a magnesium supplement.
