Washing baby clothes

Interested to hear if people are washing absolutely everything prior to use or just newborn/first clothes etc? Or not at all? I'm thinking that there must be a point whereby you stop washing clothes before wear? Also I kind of feel like it ruins the new clothes a little by taking away the brand new crisp freshness that only comes with new clothes??

I always wash any new clothes and linens, on the wash cycle they'd usually be washed on. Admittedly I rarely for new things for myself so wasn't a lot of extra washing. It was a bit of a marathon getting through all the baby things.

I washed all baby clothes and still wash most of my three-year-olds clothes before he wears them. Not so particular about it now but generally would.

I washed everything to be on the safe side, handed down clothes just to make sure there is no mound and new stuff too as it comes from factories. I think I'll stop doing it at some point but for a freshly new baby I want to make sure everything is clean. I think short cycle would probably be okay as you are not trying to get rid of stains just freshen things up.

I used fabric softener on baby sheets and I feel they smell too strongly for a newborn, might pop them outside to airate.

Agree, for a newborn you want to make sure they are nice and clean.

I think that all new clothes ought to be washed, as well as bed sheets, towels etc. They get sprayed with chemicals.

That being said, I never bother to do it. I don't have time and I'm pretty slack about these sorts of things. But for a newborn I definitely would. Once my daughter got to about 6 months I stopped doing it.

I’ve never washed adult clothes but I’m washing everything for the baby. I actually don’t really know why it’s necessary but my MIL is a midwife and she recommended it!

I washed all of DC1's clothes for about the first 3 months. Never bothered with DC2's and have never done so with any adult clothes. No reaction from DC2 to wearing new clothes.

I have never noticed this smell people say new clothes have.

I agree, I've never noticed the smell either! 🤷🏻‍♀️
