Miscarriage - heartbroken

Hi everyone,

I am 6+1 today, but started cramping and bleeding very heavily today (after spotting for the last week). Called the EPU and they've said it sounds like a miscarriage and to just wait it out and test again in 2 weeks.

I know it's extremely unlikely, but has anybody ever had heavy bleeding (with clots) and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy? I tested this morning and still got a very strong positive.

I'm just heartbroken. Had a chemical in May and now this. I'm incredibly blessed that I already have a wonderful 2 year old boy, but I'm desperate to give him a sibling. :(

Yes i did at 6+5. Lots of bleeding and clots (the clots were relatively small though) and he is now 5.

Lots of ladies bleed in pregnancy and although its certainly not normal, its very common and doesnt always end in miscarriage.

Can you not pop into your local EPU for a scan?

DawnLaura · 15/09/2020 16:53

@Ned2021 Thank you, you've given me some hope. The EPU said they'd only scan me in a few week's time if I'm still getting positive tests.

I did at 5 weeks including some (what looked to me) big clots. Just had a scan at 11 weeks and everything is fine so far.

@DawnLaura me personally would never bother calling the EPU, id always just go down there as you then get booked in as an emergancy and they would scan you.
Its rubbish they anyone could expect you to wait in limbo for 2 weeks!
Why dont you book a private scan? Im only suggesting this for piece of mind... i just couldnt wait 2 weeks and then to rely on a pregnancy test.

Good luck

I had extensive bleeding on and off until 20 weeks with my DD who is now one! When I gave birth they told my I had severe cervical ectropian which hadn’t been picked up before, which caused the bleeds.

DawnLaura so much love to you, it's horrid but at this stage of pregnancy it really is a waiting game. I had exactly the same at 6+0. Big clots. Went to EPU at 6+3 and they could see a sac but no heartbeat, it was completely inconclusive that early and they booked me in for 9 days later saying that by 7+5 we would know either way. In my case I did have a happy ending. By the scan at 10 weeks the sonographer could pick up an area of scarring and said I must have bled quite a lot as the embryo had implanted them detached and implanted again elsewhere. So it's not always bad news but the waiting was tough tough tough. I wish you all the best

@Sailor2009 Thank you, that definitely gives me a little hope that things might be okay.

@Ned2021 Oh really? I've never had to call them before, my first pregnancy there was no bleeding or anything so this is all a bit new to me. Waiting the 2 weeks is gonna be so difficult. I'm definitely considering booking a private scan, just so I can know for sure. Thank you.

@Babamamasheep Wow really?! Keeping my fingers crossed that the bleeding could be something else (hopefully not serious). I know I'm most likely clutching at straws but I need something to hold on to for these next few weeks I guess.

@VoldemortsKitten Thank you. The waiting game is so tough! I don't know how I'll get through the next 2 weeks. Just gonna try hold on to the possibility of the bleeding being something else right now - although I know it's unlikely.

Well, it's not to be for me. I took a test tonight and the line has already faded drastically. Guess that's my definitive answer. Heartbroken - but guess it just wasn't our time. 😥

Im so sorry OP.

Be kind to yourself xxx

Honestly I've had heavy bleeding that was a miscarriage (twice) and I've had heavy bleeding that wasn't. Generally with a MC you would expect some pain, some blood clots and for the bleeding to keep going (not just one big gush). Obviously everyone is different.

It's a horrible thing to go through - I'm really sorry this is happening to you x
