Dismissive MW or paranoia?

Hi all.
39 weeks here. At 37 weeks I (am pretty sure) could feel baby engaged as there was lots of pressure down below and I was feeling quite sore. At the time I was also getting period like cramps and when I spoke to triage, I was told I was likely in the very early stages of labour.

Since then I feel the baby has moved to a transverse position- FTM so I obviously have zero experience but I'm pretty sure I can often feel two round bulges- the head and the bum- on either side just under my ribs, so quite high up. Also the pressure and soreness down below has completely vanished.

I wasn't too worried as I thought the midwife would check baby's position at 38 weeks, however at the appointment she didn't actually feel my belly (just did the tape measure and BP and urine). At the end of the checks I mentioned my concern to her, to which she responded that it's not possible for the baby to move out of the head down position once it's engaged and that when she was doing the tape measure, it was quite soft near my pubic bone which means the baby's head must be there?

On a previous thread about transverse babies, a couple of people had mentioned needing EMCS etc because the bum had been mistaken for the head etc. I'm just a little anxious about this as even after I'd mentioned my concern, the midwife didn't have a feel of my belly and while I don't mind potentially needing a CS, I'd much rather avoid an emergency situation and just want to be mentally prepared.

Am I being paranoid? Could you ladies tell when baby was head down and when it was transverse? As I said, I'm a FTM so I could be talking absolute nonsense. I hope the MW is right and I'm worrying about nothing.

Seems really bad that they didn't check baby was head down at your appt! But just to reassure you, I keep being told my baby is head down and engaged and I swear I can feel two lumps on either side that feel like a head and a bum (aka transverse). I was in hospital last night being monitored and I expressed my concerns to the doctor who went and got an ultrasound scanner to confirm. And low and behold he is head down and fully engaged! I honestly don't understand what I can feel with my hands 😆 I swear he must have two bums! But yeah it did make me realise that I have no idea what I'm feeling around for in there!

The baby can move out of the pelvis it’s just unlikely. She should have checked, and by the sounds of it you’re right the baby is likely to be transverse.
Hopefully little one will move back soon. But next time you see a healthcare professional, definitely ask them to check.
Good luck with the birth of your little one xxx

I think it’s unlikely that baby has moved that far up after being engaged but she should have felt and checked the position as perk of standard practice
