Folic acid & high BMI - so worried

Hello
So I am 5 weeks pregnant today. My BMI is over 30 and I am panicking so much that I haven’t requested a higher dosage of folic acid.
I have been taking standard dosage for 6 months since I came off contraception and of course continued since I found out I was pregnant. I am worrying that I have not gave this baby the best care it needs 😭

Please please does anyone have some reassurance for me. I am in floods of tears 😰

Morning all!
Thanks so much for your reassuring words. I cannot thank you enough.

I feel an emotional rollercoaster. One minute I’m crying in love with this tiny orange pip and the next I forget I’m pregnant because I feel normal! Haha , pregnancy eh?!

I have rang GP this morning, awaiting a call back so fingers crossed I will have a prescription by this afternoon.

Thank you all again ❤️❤️❤️❤️

@Laurenemma13 hey, thanks so much for sharing...
I have been taking normal dosage since February, maybe missing a few days or so inbetween when I’ve been upset AF showed up and thought I would never have a baby!! (I do get pretty huffy 😉)

Hope you are taking care and congrats 🥰🥰

Hi,
My BMI is 35.5 or something like that so I was supposed to take 5mg of folic acid and I never even got prescribed it because it took so long for them to even get back to me I just gave up. So I took pregnacare max, and somehow my friend had 5mg of folic acid so I did start taking it quite late some days I missed because I didn’t have any left and I had to wait for her to get me some more.
I’m now 14 weeks and baby is perfectly healthy.
I wouldn’t worry but just try and get your prescription as quick as possible 🖤

@BessieBye forgot to tag you ^^

@Amjk hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! Congrats on your healthy bubba ❤️

I have just spoke to the doctor there. She asked me what my dress size was 🤨
I don’t really think it’s relevant tbh, my sister is a size 12 and is classed as obese due to her BMI! Anyway.. pick up the prescription this afternoon and she reassured that everything should be fine but is definitely worth taking the higher dosage. Phewwwww. Feel so much better now.

HI. I have been taking standard folic acid for ages but when I spoke to my midwife to book my appt she said I need to take 5mg of folic acid as my BMI is 30.1

I order the tabs off of Amazon for like £14. If you're worried call your doctor and ask them as they can prescribe it. My pregnancy isnt a high risk one as far as I know?

Hey @Gemc81, I have just been on the phone to them and my prescription will be ready this afternoon :)

Take care and congrats!! X
