Hi! I'm 40 & 4 today, I've tried to days to start trying to espresso with a manual pump but absolutely nothing comes out whatsoever?!

Is this normal..

I'd try hand expressing first. If you get anything then it will be tiny amounts of colostrum. If harvesting colostrum you would normally collect it in tiny syringes

Yes it’s absolutely normal. As the PP said, all you will get out in the beginning is colostrum and that’s better hand expressed because it will come out in tiny amounts and would be wasted in the mechanism of the breast pump. Your midwife can give you some syringes to suck up and store the colostrum. I wouldn’t worry if you can’t get any colostrum out - I couldn’t but things were absolutely fine with colostrum production and then my milk coming in on day three once baby arrived. I didn’t actually hand express prior to birth very much because I didn’t want to trigger labour - I had a c-section date that I wanted to get to!
