Hi all

This is going to sound really silly but here goes, just turned 17 wks had a scan today, wellbeing one. I have had my 12 wk nhs one and screening results all came back fine with low risk, im yet to have nhs 20 wk one, anyhow i showed the pics to my friend we were chatting and her son has down syndrome she said she cant see a nasal bone in my scan photo she said have i asked about this and could i see it in other pics? I said my NT measurement was normal range etc i was told that doesnt matter not having a visable nasal bone can mean it will still be a risk of DS, I shouldn't really rely on google for awnsers but can anyone see one on my pics? Is this something I should be concerned about or take written results as positive and focus on that? I panic over tiniest things so yeah hence why I always come on here or google sorry x

What did the sonographer say? Mine pointed out my DS’ nasal bone straight away and said it was so long she doubted my not being able to do a NT test would be a problem, and she was right. However it’s perfectly normal for BAME babies to have higher NT results / no or tiny nasal bones anyway.

I would listen to your qualified sonographer, who has spent years training in obstetric sonography, over your friend any day of the week. Many obstetric sonographers train as midwives before re training in ultrasound. They know what they are doing. I would also never fully trust a private scan. Anyone can buy an ultrasound machine and set up a company offering scans like this. The images won't always be that good, they aren't always trained sonographers. They are not regulated by any governing bodies/have universal standards like the NHS or private hospitals.
Please don't be concerned OP!

@VytaminSea thank you, that's what my mum told me she said to just hold tight and wait for 20 wk one but i booked because my anxiety was to much due to previous MC wanted it as a reassurance thing, they do know how to make money the things they try and make you purchase when there etc, i have 3 wks till 20 wk one so I will be patient till then and then as this os first pregnancy i get one at 36wks x

Don't forget that these pictures are just a single shot print out of a dynamic 3D scan, so if the baby's face is turned just slightly away from the scanner beam, it won't give a perfect cross-section and will look like the nasal bone is smaller/absent when really it's just looking away. I wouldn't worry about this from a still picture at all.

The nhs don't routinely check for a nasal bone so you won't be told they've seen one bit inthink at the 20 week scan if there clearly isn't one then it would be flagged. Your baby seems to be to have quite a defined nose, said in the nicest way possible in terms of this post, I thought a lack of nasal bone made the nose quite flat looking x
