First maternity clothes?

Hi all!

Currently 14 weeks and been living in leggings the past couple of weeks as my jeans were just getting wayyyy too uncomfortable. Not sure if I want to go down the route of buying just a bigger size as I think i'll just grow out of them super quickly.
Is it too early to buy maternity jeans? Belly is beginning to pop a bit now even though it's my first pregnancy!

TIA Smile

Not too early - you'll get more wear out of them this way!! I think I waited til about 16-17 weeks with my first?

bedjolly · 11/09/2020 11:49

Hey OP. I'm currently 32 weeks and wearing leggings as we speak 😆. I got them in a size 12-14 and my pre pregnancy size was a size 8. They fit great and I honestly hate maternity jeans but I know most people love them. Depending what size you get and how big your bump is you could grow out of them, but I've been okay with these so far. Got them at around 26 weeks.

KeepSmiling89 · 11/09/2020 11:50

I'm curious about this too. Only 10 weeks but need new trousers etc but no point in buying anything new as it won't fit for very long! Time to hit maternity clothes!

Joeyandpacey · 11/09/2020 11:54

Erm started wearing my maternity jeans at 6 weeks! So go ahead. This is my second baby though. Currently 13 weeks and now have 2 maternity jeans I wear on rotation.

Oly4 · 11/09/2020 11:55

Not too early. I highly recommend Gap maternity wear for overall comfort. Will last a few pregnancies too

ejs11 · 11/09/2020 12:03

Thanks for all your replies! Think it might be time for me to order myself some then! Everyone is so different with this kind of thing so it's difficult to gauge.
Would defo stick with the leggings all the way through but obviously some tops just don't allow for leggings (see-through bum situation).

Not too early, be comfortable!

I cannot recommend dungarees enough. So comfortable.

Spoke to my sister over the weekend and she regretted waiting in her first pregnancy as they are so comffy! Luckily she has given me a bag of maternity clothes, im 9 weeks now and don't need them yet, but there ready to go

I pretty much have lived in leggings since about 14 weeks when my jeans became too uncomfortable to wear. I’m 35 weeks now and still have the same two pairs of maternity ASOS leggings, although I have since bought another couple of pairs. I bought maternity jeans but find sizing to be so difficult, one pair are too tight and uncomfortable, and the other have an extendable band that even on the smallest setting is too big for me Confused was a size 6 to start with but I wasn’t like, teeny tiny, just have a small frame.

SkyBlue20 · 11/09/2020 14:23

I’m so glad you posted this - I’m 14 weeks tomorrow and experiencing exactly the same. Some of my jeans still fit (ish) but the top button won’t do up so I’m off shopping tonight to see what I can find (I tried the hair bobble trick and didn’t like it). It does feel too early for maternity, I worry I’ll just end up having to buy more as we go along, so I figure getting out there and physically trying stuff on is probably the best solution. My other go tos are going to be dresses and slip skirts that can be worn quite low, they ought to last a while. It’s such an awkward time of pregnancy and Google is useless!

I caved and bought maternity jeans a couple of weeks ago - at maybe 12 weeks. They are so COMFY! I love them! Now have maternity leggings too and they are also fab!
And non-wired bras! Why have I been wearing such uncomfortable clothes until this point in my life!??

peachypetals · 12/09/2020 08:01

Love leggings are great, really thick.

Superscientist · 12/09/2020 13:03

You could look at maternity wear bundles on ebay if you are worried about buying something new you might grow out of.

I got my pregnancy jeans around 20 weeks I would have got them earlier but lockdown happened and they hadnt reopened the warehouses yet. They are super comfy and I am continuing to wear them now I've had the baby and back to my normal size.

penguin423 · 12/09/2020 13:11

I started wearing maternity jeans at about 20 weeks because I needed them for going back to work in person and felt that it was better to buy the maternity ones to wear throughout rather than buying a bigger size that wouldn't last too long. I really like the ones from Dorothy Perkins Smile

steph19948 · 12/09/2020 13:38

I'm 23 weeks and just had to get some as I've literally grown a bump over night 🤣🤣🤣

Sunshinedahlia · 12/09/2020 13:54

I would definitely start looking for things now! Trying on clothes when I was exhausted and felt sick was not very fun. A pair of under bump jeans I got in week 12 were great until last week (now week 20). Got some brilliant leggings from Boob and just got some expandable dungarees which are really nice.

GirlCalledJames · 12/09/2020 13:58

I was in my maternity jeans from week 8 or so and for some time postpartum as the fabric band actually grips quite well when you are back to your normal size. They are so comfortable and keep you nice and warm in winter, I wish they made normal jeans with a band like that.

aToadOnTheWhole · 12/09/2020 15:03

I'm 12 weeks, second pregnancy and I've had maternity jeans on for a couple of weeks already. Just bought a few more. I like the new look over bump ones personally and the h&m leggings. Comfort in key in my world Grin

Gerdticker · 12/09/2020 15:24

Yep but then early - there’s literally no point waiting, your just uncomfortable for longer!

Hey the best quality you can afford too- my asda stuff fell apart quickly

Really like jojo maman stuff x

Itsalwayssunnyupnorth · 12/09/2020 15:26

I went to my 12 week scan in maternity jeans as couldn’t fit into anything else 😂 so def not too early- topshop and new look do comfy and affordable mat jeans.

Viletta · 12/09/2020 19:37

Maternity jeans was the only maternity thing I really needed and I got a pair early on. Everything else just stretched over my bump no problem. Got a couple of regular clothes but size up and they look perfect. Also got a pair of sport trousers that go below the bump really comfy
