Growth scans at 38 weeks

I have a growth scan on Tuesday I'll be 38+2 because the baby is measuring on 91st percentile. The midwives haven't really gone through what will happen afterwards, had anyone else had this and what options were given to them for example if baby comes up huge do they push for c section or induction? I just want to be prepared!

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks & 38 weeks because baby was on the 18th centile but has since dropped to the 11th. Not entirely sure whether it’s the same for small and big babies but I’ve been booked in to be induced on Monday. After your scan the midwives at the hospital will go through your options ☺️

I was told at 38 weeks dead on that I needed a growth scan because my bump had shrunk. Scan was scheduled for 38+6. Baby arrived at 38+4. Turns out she hadn't shrunk. Her head had engaged and she was all nicely tucked up to be born!

They can't tell at routine appointments how big the baby actually is - I know so many people who had to go for scans because their bump was apparently massive who then had perfectly normal-sized babies!

Sorry I cant help, but I am interested. Had a scan this week at 32+1. Baby is measuring 35 weeks. I imagine that's considered quite big. I am trying to anticipate what may come from this.

The measurents are rarely accurate. I was off the percentile scale.......was told it was going to be big baby etc.....you'll need inducing blah blah blah
Had him at 42 weeks ......8lb 13!

Yeah I had extra growth scans because DS was measuring big. They'd talked about induction at the 34 week scan, but at the 38 scan I saw a different consultant and they were very confident and all 'Yeah it'll all be fine' So I was left to go into labour naturally, which ended up being at 41+3 with DS being born the next day with forceps.

At 38 weeks they estimated he'd be 10lb at 40 weeks and was 10lb 11 when he was born 11 days after that, so fairly spot on!

He's still on the 99th centile at age 2

I had one at 38 weeks and was booked to be induced a week later due to size but I went into labour naturally before then.

I had a growth scan at 39 weeks with DS1. He measured on the 96th percentile at 9lb 6oz. They offered me induction that week. I did say no I wanted to go natural. They wouldn't let me go further than 41 weeks so booked me an induction for then. Everyone said "oh those scans are always wrong ignore them" so we did. I went into labour naturally on the morning I was due to be induced. 15 hours of labour later. An hour of pushing. Consultant examined me and said "he's now descending. He's not going to fit we need to EMCS.". Following c section he weighed in at 10lb on the dot.

I'm 5ft 5in and at the time weighed around 12 stone. Not a slight girl but by no means a big girl. I grow big babies.

I'm now 38+6 with DS2. I've had growth scans all way through and this one is also tracking on the 95th percentile and two weeks ago weighed in at just under 8lb. I'm booked in for my c section Monday.

I know a lot of people have said their scans have been wrong. However being someone who was on the other side and the scan was spot on. Just be wary. Ask as many questions as you can. Go with your gut but listen to hospital advice. At end of day when you have a healthy happy baby in your arms it doesn't matter how they got there. 😍

Yes - i had growth scans with my last 2 babies. My oldest son was 9lb 1oz at 10 days late (completely natural labour and birth) they then estimated my younger son to be 10lb plus during my growth scans. He was born at 10lb 6oz. I read so many answers here that say growth scans arent accurate etc but for me they were. I was induced at 5 days over with the youngest, but due to a combined complication of polyhydramnios. Im not big, 5'6 and a size 10 normally and i managed him naturally with just gas and air. Just wanted to let you know not every big baby gets stuck or requires a cs. Just listen to your drs advice. This time around im terrified she'll be 11lb plus, but all my midwives/consultants have said theres nothing to worry about yet. I only got referred for a growth scan due to other complications.

Hi OP my little girl is currently on the 90th percentile at 39+4 and has been right throughout had first growth scan at 32 and every week after, after the 32 week scan they did the GD test which came back okay but they should offer it to you to be sure as far as I've been informed c section is totally not necessary as your body won't produce a baby your body isn't capable of supporting but my midwife has advised me to have a sweep at 40 week then induction at 41 week hopefully this helps good luck x

I had growth scans with both of mine; was advised that if they got to a certain size, they would advise a C section, they both arrived over a couple of weeks early weighing in just under 8lbs, I did end up with emergency section with DC1, and extended episiotomy and ventuse with DC2.

Interested in this as 32 week growth scan, baby had jumped to 97th percentile! Sonographer didn’t say anything and now I’m sitting here, waiting for my next midwife appointment and worrying 😕
