Hi,

I’m after some advice. I’m currently on antidepressants and my partner and I are currently trying for a baby. I have spoken to my doctor about staying on my tablets whilst pregnant who said I was ok but it is best to come off my tablets.

I’m struggling with the idea of coming off them but also knowing that I’m on tablets could cause issues to my baby when I get pregnant is bothering me. How did others feel?

Thanks

Ask for a perinatal psychiatrist consultation. Depending on your personal circumstances it might be that for you the risks associated with untreated depression is greater than the risks associated with depression. If your current treatment is not suitable to take in pregnancy they can advise an alternative that you can take.

I'm bipolar and took my mood stabiliser throughout pregnancy on the advice. We reduce my dose a little prior to conception as my mood was stable to go back down to my maintenance dose. We were kept in after birth for 72h to make sure my baby was OK (she passed every check with no signs of ill effects).

It's important to get advice from doctors that specialise in maternal mh as medication prescribing advice changes all the time as more information becomes available
