High fetal heartbeat 37 weeks ๐Ÿ’•

Was at 37 week midwife appointment and they sent us up to the hospital triage as heart was between 180 and 190 (they tried three timeโ€™s with rests between to let her calm down). Blood pressure and urine sample all good.

At hospital she calmed down a bit but sheโ€™s still at higher end of normal so going back in at 4.30pm for them to see if any changes.

Has anyone experienced this and know what it would mean if her heart rate remained high?

My son's heart rate was high from the very first time they measured and averaged around 170 towards the end of the pregnancy. He's a strong, healthy little toddler now so I don't think it necessarily means anything. I assume they'll just monitor it a little bit as you go on, which is never a bad thing, but I wouldn't worry about it.

Often itโ€™s just because theyโ€™re active (same way you or I would have a higher heart rate if we exercise). Assuming they did a CTG monitor for you, usually itโ€™s fairly easy to tell whether baby is unwell causing the high heart rate, or whether just active (the monitoring printout looks quite different). Wouldnโ€™t worry too much, most likely it will be totally normal on your recheck

My baby's was high at about 34 weeks and they prepped me for a c section. They monitored me for the rest of the morning and her heart rate slowed down to borderline (about 160). They were happy with that so the c section didn't go ahead. At 37 weeks youre classed as full term so try not to worry. Hope all goes well x
