This sickness is killing me

What can I do? I’m at my wits end. I just want to cry and cry and cry..
The nausea is constant! I’m now being sick at least once an hour. Nothing is coming up except water and stomach acid. I can’t eat, I can’t even sleep.

I’m on cyclazine right now and doc has just prescribed me something else (cannot remember name, I’ll be picking it up this afternoon)

I just don’t know what else to do.. I’m struggling to look after my 2 DS’s. I feel so sorry for myself

Sorry to hear you're having such a rotten time of it. I had hyperemesis with my first and dreading the thought of having to go through it again.

I tried several different meds and some worked better than others. Hopefully this new one will help take the edge off at least. I have some survival tips that helped me. They are totally against everything the drs and books tell you, but whatever it takes to survive...

-drink fizzy juice. It has to be properly fizzy. Cans are best as bottles go flat too quickly. Don't know why but this stayed down better. Water for me was an absolute no. Could never keep even a sip in.

  • ice poles! If all else failed I used to be able to keep down a few ice poles.
  • Avoid eating trigger foods or anything particularly unpleasant to vomit. - mince out your nose is not nice, too lumpy.
  • have something nice smelling, like a cloth with perfume on it to hold to your nose when horrible smells overpower you. It can help with milder waves.
  • I had days when all I could keep down was salt and vinegar crisps or fizzy strawberry laces. I figured that was better than attempting to eat only healthy stuff and vomiting it back up. Some energy is better than none.

Guilt needs to go out the window. Whatever you need to do to survive is what's best. A drip in hospital isn't pleasant, but it is there as an option if you need it.

Thesuzle · 07/09/2020 14:43

Strangely for me it was very flat full fat coke. Not anything with sweeteners in
The sticker you are, the stronger the baby, good luck I survived did 8 months of it

LunchBoxPolice · 07/09/2020 14:44

I have Hg and Cyclizine alone didn’t work for me, it had the best effect when taken with Ondansetron. I would push to try it if that isn’t what you’ve been prescribed already. Gp’s tend to be reluctant to prescribe it.
There is a great hyperemesis thread on here somewhere, you should check it out.

This thread is really good to join.

I am the same as you, 8 weeks and totally miserable.
I tried cyclizine too and waiting to pick something different up from the chemist, hopefully it works and I can swallow it without throwing up 😭

Queenbee95 · 07/09/2020 15:37

Thanks everyone for the tips.
I’ve had 2 spoonfuls of Rice Krispies and half a biscuit today. Both were brought back up within 10/20 minutes. I can’t even keep water down, my mouth feels so dry though.
Not really sure what else to do, I didn’t experience this with my two DS’s.

Unsure whether to write this or not.. but all day all I can think about is termination.

I want this baby and so does my partner and we are happy and excited..

But the way I’m feeling right now, I’m no so sure I can go on. I’m so scared to voice this to my partner as I don’t want to hurt him and I know deep down I do not want a termination, I’m only thinking this way because of how awful I feel.. I have borderline personality disorder which I’m managing without medication right now but I feel like this constant sickness is dragging me down and I’m beginning to feel quite suicidal..

I just don’t know what to do anymore 😔

Poor you!
I was similar, and by 3rd pregnancy I learnt that I was going to be sick anyway, so drank water as I was vomiting, which was more comfortable that throwing up bile from an empty stomach.
Usually once I'd finished being sick (ten mins or so of retching) I could manage tea and toast after about half an hour, and it would stay down long enough to be nourishing.
Happened several times a day till I was about 12 weeks I think. Spent another few weeks feeling nauseous but not being sick, and then it passed
Totally agree with pp about not eating things that are particularly unpleasant when they come back up.
It's miserable, and I'm sorry you've got it badly Flowers

Silentfrog · 07/09/2020 15:48

Just read update and I felt exactly same, even though all pregnancies were wanted. If you are able, just rest and concentrate on getting through this time. Hopefully the new meds will help x

Silentfrog · 07/09/2020 15:49

Also, look into (speak to midwife) about pre natal depression. I'm fairly certain I had it. Was absolutely fine after 6 months and the births

Pregnancy Sickness Support

Lots of practical, emotional and legal/employment advice here .

And many (distant) hugs. I had 2 HG pregnancies, they were awful.

Spinksy9 · 07/09/2020 16:03

@Queenbee95 this was me 2 weeks ago. I hated being awake. Only time I wasn't sick was when I was alseep. They were going to admit me to hospital but i asked to try tablets first. The Dr put me on metoclopramide 3 times a day. After a week it eased off and now i dont need any tablets. I get some dry heeving and nausea but sickness has subsided. I found salt n vinegar crisps helped and ice lollies. Honestly try some ice lollies, they were the only thing thay helped get fluid in x

onlinelinda · 07/09/2020 16:10

Baked potatoes helped me. No idea why.

SuperSange · 07/09/2020 16:19

You poor love; I had exactly the same. It's totaklly shit. It was my first pregnancy that was viable ()3 x MMC, had HG with all of them) and some days I seriously wante to terminate to make it stop.

I hope the meds help; if you're in danger of dehydtarion, go to the EPU. I needed admitting a couple of tmes for IV fluids.

Queenbee95 · 07/09/2020 17:41

How do I know if I’m dehydrated? Anything I eat/drink I’m bringing back up. Have done since yesterday morning

OP posts:
Spinksy9 · 07/09/2020 17:50

@Queenbee95 urine colour is a big indicator. You can ask the GP to do a urine dip and then if it shows you are, they can admit you to the EPU x

Queenbee95 · 07/09/2020 17:58

I called gp today (they give you any dr) and he prescribed me prochlorperazine, but didn’t ask me any questions AT ALL.. didn’t ask if I was eating or drinking or nothing. Just said take these and that’s it..

OP posts:
yoomoo · 07/09/2020 18:00

@Queenbee95 Sorry to hear you are suffering Sad if you’ve not been able to keep anything down, even liquids, since yesterday then you will most certainly be dehydrated. I had to be admitted to hospital when I was 10 weeks for fluids and anti sickness meds, my sickness was caused by a kidney infection that had got nasty but they suspected HG to begin with. I was only being sick for around 12 hours but also couldn’t keep down water or anything liquid so I was severely dehydrated after that small amount of time. If you can please get yourself to A&E for some fluids and anti sickness, they can get that done in a few hours and you will feel better. They’ll also be able to prescribe you with some stronger tablets x

yoomoo · 07/09/2020 18:01

P.s. my A&E have a triage at the door where they check your temp etc, when I told them I was pregnant and how sick I was being they rushed me through and put me on a fluid drip immediately. Please do get yourself seen there if you can

Cheesecourse · 07/09/2020 18:08

I had this throughout all my pregnancy. Some days were slightly better, others horrendous. All day every day it was horrible. Sleep (as in a nap) helped but very hard to do with other children and/or work. It really was horrendous but it goes... unfortunately mine not until I had my baby but if it helps, I don’t know anyone who had it all the way through. Obviously I read about it but it’s rare. So you have hope, hold on in there.

bunhead34 · 08/09/2020 13:52

How are you getting on with the new medicine op?

Queenbee95 · 08/09/2020 14:58

Hi @bunhead34 I’m on prochlorperazine now. Only started it today but I’m not feeling as sick anymore. Still dry heaving a lot. Absolutely starving, I haven’t eaten in a few days, but gonna try something small since I’m feeling a bit better 💖

OP posts:
Queenbee95 · 08/09/2020 14:59

How about you? Did you manage to get more meds?

OP posts:
abitfunny · 08/09/2020 15:02

Good god @Queenbee95 I'm six weeks too and although I am experiencing nausea, nothing of this extent. Really hope you start to feel better soon, and if you don't, not wanting to keep the baby because of how awful it's making you feel is perfectly okay. Maybe we are due date buddies?

bellinisurge · 08/09/2020 15:09

Poor you, op. I nibbled bits of lettuce and, if I could face it, cucumber to try and get fluids inside me. This was after I had been hospitalised and put on a drip because nobody realised I had hyperemesis.
