Is my baby's scan photo normal?

Hi all,

I'm currently 16+4 weeks pregnant and recently had my gender scan privately.

I was just wondering if there was too much of a gap between baby's head and my uterus if that makes sense?

I read online it could be water and that it's abnormal.

I'm panicking a bit now, can I have some reassurance and advice please?

Thanks so much Smile

You need to speak to a medical professional if you are worried. Did they not say anything at the scan?
Nobody (or very, very few people) on mumsnet will be qualified to comment.

I'm sure the sonographer would have said something when they were doing their various measurements if there was a problem?

Even if it was just a gender scan, I'd have expected them to flag something if there was a worry.

The sonographer said everything was fine but they don't perform an anomaly scan or anything. I know no mumsnetters are probably qualified to diagnose but I wanted to know if others have got similar scan photos ?

Babies move around the whole time so it's very hard to say anything from a picture - if it was taken 10 seconds later, it would probably look totally different. Please don't worry; we had a sexing scan at 16 weeks and although it's not an anomaly scan, the sonographers are still medical professionals and would have flagged anything if they thought it needed further investigation.

Excess fluid/unusual placement is probably a basic thing for a Sonographer to spot regardless of what they're looking for as it would be pretty obvious to them so they'd have mentioned it but if you're worried you could always speak to your midwife.

Just as an FYI, your name, DOB and area are all visible on that photo.

Normal. That’s just amniotic fluid behind, not fluid in te neck fold. They bounce around in there - imagine a little doll inside a water balloon - some of the time they will lie up against the back of your uterus, sometimes the front, sometimes in the middle with fluid behind and in front which is what your baby is doing there.
