Hi, I'm hoping someone will talk to me as I feel so lonely. I had a follow up growth scan today on baby and her femur and humerus length are in the 5th centile. They did say she's in proportion but looking at the percentiles against everything else you'd think the opposite! My sister and other half are just saying don't worry she will be fine, but I can't just assume that and I can't process what could be... As I always think of the worse scenario. Everything else is fine, her heart, brain, spine etc she's showing no abnormalities but why are her arm and leg long bones measuring short when me and my partner are both tall. We also have a daughter and all her measurements were fine apart from her big tummy was always on the larger percentile. Xx

I know it's easier said than done as I'm sure I will worry about things that I don't need to at times but if the professionals aren't concerned I'd be inclined to say not to give yourself unnecessary stress. If they were worried they would say so. If all else fails give your midwife a ring tomorrow and talk it through with him/her I'm sure they will be able to make more sense of it for you and make you worry less x

If they said she was in proportion and didn't raise any concerns with you or refer you for further tests then I would think all is fine and nothing to worry about x

Thanks @emma911030 and @Sanch1 I do have another follow up in four weeks time, so this will be my 3rd scan with fetal medicine. Just scared that's all as obviously femur is linked to skeletal dysplasia (which there's like 400 types). I guess the good thing is she stayed on the growth chart line since last scan, it's just she's still measuring behind. I feel so upset. Obviously we'd love her the same if there was something wrong, but it's not what you'd want for your child is it. Xx

@Laura3151 can you give an update on your baby? We are in a similar situation.

BattenburgBerry · 29/03/2021 06:40

@RomRoRo please don’t worry. My baby always had head and abdomen measurements on the 90th centile and his leg measurement was on the 9th centile at the scans I had. I had extra scans due to my own health issues and would always worry. They also estimated that he would be quite a big baby.
I can assure you now he’s here that he’s absolutely perfect, he weighed 6lbs, so not big after all! And his head, tummy and legs are all in proportion. He’s very happy and healthy now at 7 weeks old.
These centile charts are very old and can be widely inaccurate. The measurements taken on a scan can be subject to user error too.
DON’T WORRY, relax and enjoy your pregnancy, happy mum= happy baby Smile

I wanted to reply as I searched Google high and low when this happened to me a few months ago. My hospital does give percentiles so I’m not sure exactly what percentile my measurements were but the femur was at the very bottom of the graph and other measurements were just above average. I was super worried. My baby is now 10 weeks old and is absolutely fine, in fact he’s already in 3-6 month sleepsuits! Please try not to worry

Thanks all @BattenburgBerry @Upsydaisyy

Reassuring to hear positive stories.
