I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Here we are; the shiny new thread. Stagger on and rest on one of the cyber cushions.

Thank you for the new thread @LucindaE - it's so helpful to speak to others who are feeling the same way as you.

I have just had another dose of my cyclizine and now headed to bed. Fingers crossed for a good nights sleep.

Anyat212 · 01/09/2020 21:57

Thanks lucinda just checking in x

PhotoMum4 · 02/09/2020 07:21

Thank you for the new thread.
Those who are taking ondanstron what dose are your tablets?

Seeker2020 · 02/09/2020 09:55

@PhotoMum4- when I was taking Ondansetron I was on 4mg three times a day. Doctor said feel free to miss a dose if I was feeling ok....safe to say I was taking all three pills daily!

Puddlelane123 · 02/09/2020 14:30

Hello ladies, still feeling dreadful and vomming continually at 10 weeks. Currently on a combination of cyclizine and metoclopromide and promethazine which is doing very little to be honest. I’m starting to lose the plot a bit and question how much longer I can cope feeling / being so ill. Just spoke to my GP and she uttered the words no woman with HG should ever hear ‘Have you tried Ginger Biscuits?’. There are NO WORDS!!!!!!!

Symathies for you all

LouJ85 · 02/09/2020 17:07

Feeling very down today. I missed my daughter's 14th birthday celebrations due to this hideous illness. I'm only 7 +1 ... I sense a very long road ahead. Sad
How the hell do people cope with this?!

LucindaE · 02/09/2020 17:38

coffeecow I am glad you are finding this thread helpful.
Puddlelane Ten weeks is the worst stage for many, and very hard to bear. I do urge you to phone 024 7638 2020 Pregnancy Sickness Support who will ring back with good advice about obtaining the best meds. Much sympathy.
LouJ85 I am sorry to hear that you missed your daughter's birthday celebration. You can make up for it later. Remind me what meds you are on?
Seeker2020 Great advice.
Waves to Anya212 and PhotoMum4.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

Thanks for the new thread. Just checking in. Ate brekkie too quickly this morning and was dry heaving for ages afterwards. Urgh! Felt better rest of the day though.

AlbertCookie · 02/09/2020 21:37

Ive noticed I seem to feel a lot worse in the evening.
Both today and yesterday have followed the pattern of....first vomit at 4.30pm, then feeling absolutely shattered and nauseous beyond belief until I go to bed, with a few times being sick in between.

I also notice before I'm physically sick I get very sticky/thick mucus in the back of my throat,....anyone else? (sorry for TMI)

Not sure the cyclizine is doing the trick.

Apricotta · 03/09/2020 05:30

Hello! Thanks for the new thread. Up stupidly early again, 3am this time! It's not nausea that woke me up but something like just rolling over and then bam I'm awake enough to feel the nausea! 2 ginger biscuits, water and a chilled smoothie which sorted me out yesterday morning is unfortunately not doing the job this morning. Still awake at 5.30 probably not going to be able to go back to sleep! Alarm goes at 6.15! Feeling utterly shit, a little emotional and it's the first day back for my students today! I ma leaving promptly on the bell this evening!!!!!

BuffyFanForever · 03/09/2020 06:09

Hi everyone, I’ve been awake since 3am too. First day back at work today after the Summer and I’m not sure how I’m going to manage. Over hour commute on tube and bus without vomiting...let alone the entire day at work...really worried...

Seeker2020 · 03/09/2020 10:00

Hi all you lovely ladies. For those who are struggling to get into work and have productive days without making the HG worse, please do consider some time off. I know it's easier said than done, especially in this climate, but a bit of time off to rest and recuperate properly whilst the worst of it passes can be a life-changer.

Big love to you all xxx

Anyat212 · 03/09/2020 17:58

Completely agree with you seeker, I've had time off work and it's definitely helped me feel better. If you are too poorly or really struggling don't push yourself otherwise it will be even worse!

I'm still feeling okay, sickness meds have made me function. Nausea comes back in waves and I'm still sick once a day - but a massive difference thankfully. The constipation has finally eased off too. I think I'll be on Movicol until I've had the baby though. I always thought ondansetron was the main cause of the brutal constipation last time and given it's not as bad, but it's not far off! One of my meds has constipation as a side effect too. Today would have been two weeks (I last went before I was admitted to hospital)Blush so I need avoid this as much as possible. Hopefully it will be easier as I'm not being as sick as much / able to stomach water better in general, I was so annoyed when I drank water and then was sick shortly afterwards!

I even managed to get my eyebrows done this afternoon, I know this probably sounds ridiculous but I've waited nearly 6 months!! It was just nice to have some normality today. First time I've left the house and drove in about 3 weeks too.

Hope everyone is okay today x

LucindaE · 03/09/2020 21:48

BuffyFanForever Welcome. I hope you coped with the return to work with that horribly long commute?
Apricotta I do hope your day was bearable, too?
AlbertCookie Never worry about TMI on here. I remember that phlegm.
If the Cyclizine isn't helping enough, do ask for stronger meds.
doritodiva Sorry to hear of dry heaving.
Seeker2020 I so agree about resting being one of the best forms of treatment.
Anya212 Congratulations on having your eyebrows done. I am sure it is a great boost. Smile
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

@LucindaE thanks. I got through but felt sick all day. Slept for 3 hrs when I got home! I'm not liking the new timetable for SDistancing, I get 30 mins for lunch, takes me an hour to nibble whatever small thing I have! So I'm going to have to eat in lessons I think. I'm also not allowed to leave the classes even for a minute....dunno how this will work if I need to vomit! We have a one way system which means a massive detour to get o a toilet!!! Hating it to be honest, it's hard enough in normal circumstances let alone covid ones! It'll be worth it in the end though Xx I look as shit as I feel! Haha!!!

doritodiva · 04/09/2020 10:13

Does anyone know if any meds which don't cause drowsiness? I'm exhausted once I'm back from work. I slept from 6pm last night. Up at 6 today!

Seeker2020 · 04/09/2020 10:24

@doritodiva- I found Ondansetron to be best for me re. drowsiness....but everyone is different.
There are, however, other weird and wonderful side effects that come with Ond. which you would want to weigh up (e.g. constipation)

Love to all xx

doritodiva · 04/09/2020 13:41

@Seeker2020 thank you.

I've had my weekly call with the dr who yet again has said about me cutting down so I'm not taking too much stemitil? He wants me to have a blood test to test my kidney function. I said I'd try and cut down to two tabs a day rather than three. He's being supportive but I just feel like it's making me anxious when he keeps saying about me taking too much.

bunhead34 · 04/09/2020 16:42

Hello all can I tentatively join?
I am 8 weeks and have been feeling nauseous day and night for about 3 weeks (touch wood, I don't feel that bad today!)

I was given cyclizine first which isn't doing much.
Then tried metaclopramide which made me feel really twitchy and awful!
Next to try is ondanstron but my gp wasn't sure if it can be taken in the 1st trimester so wants to check with the pharmacist on Monday.
Is anyone else taking ondanstron in the first trimester?

Mine is an Ivf pregnancy and I am on progesterone and Estrogen until 12 weeks, so I hope stopping them will make me feel better too!

Yabberdabbado · 04/09/2020 19:24

Ondanstron has a very small risk of facial deformity and cleft lip associated with it X

LucindaE · 04/09/2020 19:47

bunhead Welcome. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I am not medical, but surely the hormonal treatment must be making things worse, so hopefully when you are taken off that, things might improve a bit? In the same way on this thread women expecting twins often are very ill early on but recover often more quickly than average due to the extra hormones. Hopefully so. It's good that the doctor took you off the metaclopramide if it made you twitchy. There are various other meds they can try you with including a new one with a name I always forget - Xonvea, that is it! Here is my usual spiel which I hope helps: ere is my usual spiel: Most sufferers find that they improve a lot at some point between weeks 14 and 20. A good anti acid can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or from a chemists, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously. Some drinks that have helped others: full sugar flat coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucozade, apple juice, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, lemon squash, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange, 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water, apple juice, and Robinson's fruit drinks. Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, bagels, slices of melon and mango, grated cheese, baked potatoes, grated cheese and biscuits. Someone recommended a wonderful drink, recently, which I said I would add to the list and - stupid Mother Hen! - I've lost the reference!
Apricotta That sounds awful about not being able to use a loo. Is there no large store cupboard with a basin or something - I remember another teacher having to use that? I suppose there no chance of your getting a sick note until you are over the worst?
doritodiva I suppose the doctor is being extra careful, but it must make you feel nervous. It might be worth phoning the Pregnancy Sickness Support number on 024 7638 2020 to ask about Stemitil and why he might be anxious about it and kidney function? There is a retired doctor on there who rings back with very good advice.
Waves to Yabadabbado Seeker20 and everyone.
