I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I got stemetil yesterday but I don't think it's doing much for me.
Still feel super sick and dizzy (haven't been sick today but probably because I've not eaten anything)
I'm so miserable I don't know what I'm supposed to do now 😭

Seeker2020 · 08/09/2020 11:17

Hi team- can I do a quick sense check? I'm about 24 weeks and even though the sickness is fading (hopefully this gives some hope to you all suffering---it should get better), I'm feeling very, VERY warm inside. Almost inflamed, but not like a fever. Is anyone else feeling this 'flush'?

HG sufferer just dropping in to say hi!

I’m 17 weeks (exactly) with twin girls. Due 16th Feb but I’ll have them mid January-ish. It’s my first pregnancy so the HG was a HUGE shock but made sense when I got the even bigger shock of twins.

It’s finally become “manageable” following a few hospital stays and being prescribed Ondansetron after other medications failed. I had hoped it would have gone by now and I keep getting optimistic and trying to skip a tablet but no such luck :(

Only saving grace was being furloughed and then made redundant which means I haven’t had to work - I couldn’t have physically done it!

ChubbyMumFromSkye · 08/09/2020 15:12

Has anyone tried these to help with sickness? My friend bought them for me because she had heard lots of great stories about them.

I looked online and it says they are ok to take when pregnant and lactating so I have just taken my first one.

I'll keep you posted whether it helps or not!

Xbambi Welcome. How exciting, TWINS! At one point we had four sets of twins expected on here. I am so glad that Ondansetron helps. You are so right only to try to withdraw from it slowly. I've added you to the list.
FunkyPolar That sounds bad. As Cyclizine isn't working, do ask for something else. I suffered long ago myself. These days I am Mother Hen on this thread.
blueskiesandapples I hope you get a bigger improvement soon. I've added your Due Date. That is a lovely image conjured up by your name, by the way. It makes me think of early autumn orchards...
QwertyBert That sounds a good item to try. On the vitamin pills, liquid forms are less nauseating for most on this thread - especially the iron.
bunhead34 Sorry to hear that Stemetil is't helping. Do ask for something else.
ChubbyMumFromSkye That is interesting. I have never heard of those. It'll be interesting to see how helpful they are.

Hi all, thought this might tickle some of you. My due date has now been brought forward from the end of Dec to Christmas Day.....just hope I get to snarffle down my Christmas lunch before little one makes his appearance!

xbambi · 09/09/2020 10:31

@Seeker2020 When my partner and I were ready to start trying I calculated what would be my due date and it was Christmas Day so I said we had to wait until the next month to start as there was no way I was having a baby on Christmas Day. Jokes now on me as it’s twins and I’ve been told they could well arrive end of December (but hopefully not as I wanna keep them in there as long as poss) 🤣

xbambi · 09/09/2020 10:33

@Seeker2020 PS hope you do get your lunch. I haven’t ate a full meal since June but HG or not I’ll be making sure that one goes down my neck

coffeecow · 09/09/2020 12:03

I haven't posted for a while. I am 7 weeks pregnant and really struggling. I was put on cyclizine three times a day which initially seemed to help but the last couple of days have been really bad. I have made another doctors appointment for 2.30 today. Does anyone know what I could ask for next? Had to leave work today in floods of tears and it was so embarrassing - I've gone from a competent and capable person to a puking crying mess and I'm just so sad.

Queenbee95 · 09/09/2020 12:20

Hey ladies, newb here. Due May 2nd. Suffering horribly with nausea and vomiting. Cyclazine was rubbish, prochlorperazine seems to help a little.
Any question... when should I be worried about weight loss? I’m only 6 weeks, but have already lost 5lbs since finding out just 2 weeks ago.

xbambi · 09/09/2020 12:20

@coffeecow Cyclizine didn’t work for me, I even had it administered through an IV while at hospital and it just made me vomit more. I went onto metoclopramide next but I think at this point I was too far gone with dehydration etc and was admitted into hospital for a second time and then prescribed Ondansetron - they were funny about giving me this and I had my reservations about taking it due to side effects (cleft palates - but after being informed by a pharmacist friend that they form in the first 9 weeks and at this point I was 10 I decided to take it). A friend of mine with HG went on a combination of cyclizine and metoclopramide liquid and this worked well for her.

xbambi · 09/09/2020 12:24

@Queenbee95 I’m 17 weeks. I lost a stone and a half I would say by about 10 weeks. I’m starting to show now and having twins but would still say I’m losing a pound or so a week. Midwife etc unconcerned and told me to view my babies as parasites (nice!) - she said they will take absolutely everything they need from me even if that leaves me with nothing and to try and just eat for myself rather than for them. That really helped my mindset as I thought I was failing already but they’re a good size so clearly totally unaffected by everything!

Queenbee95 · 09/09/2020 12:27

@xbambi congrats.. Twins how exciting!! 🥰
Thanks for that, I’m just worried because I put weight on over the full course of both my sons pregnancies so I’m kinda worrying a little. Never had this sickness before (except for first 10 weeks with DS1 who was a twin also)

xbambi · 09/09/2020 12:46

@Queenbee95

Thank you! Maybe it’s a girl this time if you’re having sickness?! I’m having twin girls Smile It’s my first pregnancy so I had no idea what to expect but my view was I should be putting on lots of weight but they told me to really not worry about that. I keep joking it’s the best diet I have ever been on (but of course I was take all the weight gain in the world over this)

Queenbee95 · 09/09/2020 12:55

@xbambi my partner hopes so, I really don’t mind either way. We already have 3 boys between us (he’s got 1 and I’ve 2) so a girl would be nice☺️
Are they identical or fraternal?

xbambi · 09/09/2020 13:08

@Queenbee95 Apparently they can’t say for definite but they look to be fraternal - separate sacs and placentas and there are twins in my family. However we had 3D scans done at our gender scan and their little faces look so similar already we have had lots of messages asking if they are identical when we shared them.

bunhead34 · 09/09/2020 14:25

@xbambi did the Ondansetron work well for you?
I've just been given it, really hoping it works

xbambi · 09/09/2020 14:33

@bunhead34 Yes - a complete game changer. I use it alongside another tablet which is for dizziness etc but I forgot the name. I still feel the other symptoms but I’m not throwing up any longer which means I can now eat and drink and has stopped me being admitted into hospital every week. I really hope it works for you as I have no idea what the options are after this. 🤞🏼

LucindaE · 09/09/2020 14:38

Welcome to Queenbee95. You have had great advice from others about the weight loss already. The doctors and midwives will be monitoring it. Here is my normal spiel which I hope might help.
Most sufferers find that they improve a lot at some point between weeks 14 and 20. A good anti acid can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or from a chemists, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously. Some drinks that have helped others: full sugar flat coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucozade, apple juice, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, lemon squash, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange, 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water, apple juice, and Robinson's fruit drinks. Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, bagels, slices of melon and mango, grated cheese, baked potatoes, grated cheese, bagels and biscuits. Someone recommended a wonderful drink, recently, which I said I would add to the list and - stupid Mother Hen! - I've lost the reference!
Seeker2020 Sorry, I forgot to say to the other query that the particular symptom was one I didn't know about - maybe one of the many and varied side effects of Hyperemesis? Baby will be the best Christmas present ever, anyway...
coffeecow Some have been really helped by Xonvea. It is very difficult to work when suffering badly. Would it be possible to get a sick note?
Xbambi Good advice.
I'll update the Due Dates lsit asap.

Hello! LucindaE don't worry, I'm not here for another pregnancy! I just thought I'd come and cheer you all on and let you know there's a light at the tunnel.

I've had 2 HG pregnancies, both just as bad as each other, in very different ways. But I've now got 2 lovely children. DS is 3 in November and DD turns 1 next week! They're happy, healthy, and on the 98th centile for weight, so please don't worry if you're not getting the vitamins or the nutrients into your body.

I've got an in law who's currently suffering with HG although her HCPs all seem to not want to diagnose her with it, but from what she's said she 100% has it. She just thought she was making too much of a fuss!

Anyway, thanks again Lucinda for all your help and support back in the day.

Ladies, you're in good hands, and good luck to you all!

bunhead34 · 09/09/2020 15:19

@xbambi phew!
I've taken one and I think I feel better (trying not to jinx it)
I really had to fight for this stuff!

blueskiesandapples · 09/09/2020 16:04

@DeadDoorpost that's the situation I was in. None would actively diagnose me but all sent me info about HG, I'm on Ondansetron etc.

@coffeecow Cyclizine only worked for a few days for me and then I became even worse and rung up the GP in a snotty, crying, desperate mess and they gave me Ondansetron. If you do get that also get some stool softener like Lactulose.

@LucindaE yes! I love that image too as I grew up with an apple tree and it makes me happy, especially this time of year.

I've got my anomaly scan on Friday and so anxious for it. I lost about a stone and have put some of it back on but I'm still lighter than I was pre-pregnancy and I'm worried. The poster below who said they are like parasites really helped! Let's hope it's true!!

coffeecow · 09/09/2020 16:20

Thank you for the replies. I've been prescribed Promethazine - has anyone had experience they could share with this? I was also given acupuncture by one of the doctors. Seemed a bit odd, I'm not sure if that's going to help or not but at this point I'll try anything!
