6w4d - no fetal pole

Hi guys. I had a blighted ovum last year and a MMC the year before so when I found out I was pregnant last month I immediately booked a private early reassurance scan for 6w4d.

We went and saw a sac with an MSD of 13.5mm and a yolk sac however the sonographer said she would’ve hoped to have seen more how far along I was.
The sac measured 6w2d - and she said you’d usually be able to see a heartbeat or at least a small feral pole at this point. My uterus is retroverted.

I’ve booked another scan for the 8th September, but I’m really struggling to stay positive or to believe that I am still pregnant and growing this baby :( just feels like last year all over again and that I’m going to find out it’s blighted.

Anyone had a similar experience?

@Msmercer sorry to hear your going through this it’s hard having to wait wishing you all the best

Sorry you’re going through this.
How certain are you about your dates? Just checked and 13.5mm corresponds to more like 5+5-6+2 weeks pregnant - so given ovulation +/- a few days, as well as retroverted uterus, could easily be normal, so her advice isn’t really correct.
Generally you would definitely expect to see something with MSD over 25mm (and ideally over 20). Your dates and the scan findings may well just mean it’s a little early to see anything. Good luck!

@TenThousandSpoons0 hey! I’m not 1000% on dates, I generally had a very regular cycle of 28-29 days and my LMP was the 13th July. I did a quick google and 13.5mm did come up as closer to 5.5mm, I rang the company back to question this and she said from the yolk+gest measurements I was measuring 6+2/3 which is why they believe it’s a MMC/blighted :-(

I want to stay positive and hope for the best but I also don’t want to get ahead of myself and be disappointed a second time when I go back next week.

OP there really isn't any way to avoid getting your hopes up again, as awful as it is you do just need to find a way to survive in the limbo you're in till the next scan. I really hope you get good news then.
If it does turn out to be bad, then three miscarriage is usually the point you can get testing done, which can help you moving forward. I hope not though.

So it’s also a good thing that they’ve seen a yolk sac - honestly try to be hopeful, fingers crossed it’s just too early
