Is it possible to leak small amounts without realising into a panty liner? Or would I definitely know I've lost my waters

It can trickle, doesn’t necessarily (or usually) go in a gush. I thought I had wet myself, it was that similar leaking feeling. If you aren’t sure, call the midwife.

Kaiserin · 29/08/2020 11:31

It can be a barely noticeable trickle, it can be a big gush, it can not break till you're well ready to push... In case of doubt, call a midwife.

Ginfilledcats · 29/08/2020 12:05

I had the opposite- thought my waters had gone, there was merconium in them too. Went to labour ward, baby's heart rate kept dropping so they wanted to put the feral heart monitor on. Went to do it and they were like, err your waters haven't gone! Had them broken - no gushing- more merconium though. I was 3cm at the time, an hour later I was 10 and pushing!

Superscientist · 29/08/2020 12:32

It was obvious when mine went, I had a gush whenever I stood up and I left a large enough puddle on the examination bed that they decided they didn't need to do the exam to see if they had gone.

If you think they have gone give them a call. If they have gone there is a 24h clock on babies arrival because of the infection risk.

With DS I arrived at hospital to be told my waters had already gone and I had no idea.

DS2 was very obvious!

PheasantPlucker1 · 29/08/2020 12:34

Mine went as a slow trickle over a couple of days.

I didnt realise, thought I was just incontinent and was too embarrassed to say anything. It was quite a relief when the midwives told me!

Dillybear · 29/08/2020 12:36

I didn’t know for sure that my waters had gone for four days! I was experiencing a small amount of what felt like leaking.
Clear kind of viscous-y liquid. Never soaked a pad, just seemed to collect when I lay down and then run down my legs - sorry probably TMI! I rang the midwives who said it was probably just discharge. Then I went into hospital with some bleeding in the liquid and they told me my waters had gone. Had to start the induction process a few hours after this, although I only needed the pessary as baby was well and truly on her way!

If you’re not sure they can check if it’s your waters in hospital. Hope it goes well for you!

Prettybluepigeons · 29/08/2020 12:36

Mine didn't go until I was pushing my babies out and they went with quite a dramatic pop and gush. The second time they soaked the midwife!

Lilice · 29/08/2020 15:51

My first baby was a slow trickle and I didnt realise, just thought I was incontinent.
My second baby, it was an obvious gush and it all went in one go. Two completely experiences. If you're not sure, ring your hospital and go get checked.

toomanyspiderplants · 29/08/2020 15:54

I knew.big gush!

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 29/08/2020 15:57

Mine was a big gush as I was getting out of the bath. I called the hospital and they asked whether I might have wet myself .🤣
So I think it’s pretty common to have some incontinence at the end. Mine was really obvious though and it didn’t feel like weeing at all, a massive gush!

CityDweller · 29/08/2020 16:00

Slow trickle for me. I didn’t realise

Helloyouthere · 29/08/2020 16:03

It wasn't obvious when mine went, it wasn't a gush and there wasn't that much x

Caspianberg · 29/08/2020 16:06

Mine didn’t go at all, and had to be popped about 2 mins before ds was born

Katiemaggie · 29/08/2020 16:07

In both my pregnancies my waters went with slow trickles at first. Because they were leaking I was induced due to risk of infection. If in doubt definitely get checked out. Good luck x

BlueRaincoat1 · 29/08/2020 16:13

Slow leaky trickle for me - particularly a bit of leaking after lying down. After a couple of days I phoned the midwife who told me to get it checked out. I thought it defo wasn't my waters and was very surprised to be told in the hospital they had definitely gone. I was having a section so it turned into an emergency section later that night. So defo get it checked out if you think they might have gone.

Hoppinggreen · 29/08/2020 16:15

No,I didn’t notice with either of mine
With poor DS I was induced and they were trying to rupture my membrane but they were actually hooking DS head and he came out all scratched

Justme10 · 29/08/2020 17:20

I definitely knew! Mine woke me up, I thought I was peeing myself then realised I had no control over it and was a lot more than a pee 😂
