Fetal Cardiac Scan

Hi all - I'm classed as high risk because of epilepsy, and am going for a cardiac scan later today. I'm 24 weeks. I'm feeling OK about it, but I just wondered if anyone has had a cardiac scan and how/if it differs from other scans? Thanks Flowers

It's very similar to a standard scan, just longer and (of course) concentrates on your baby's heart. They might not talk much during the scan as they need to concentrate to ensure they see all the structures they need to see.

@littlebelina Thanks, that's really helpful. Prior to my booking scan and 20 week I was so nervous, and I thought I was doing alright with this one but all of a sudden the word 'cardiac' is freaking me out. I know it's great having the extra care, but at the same time it's scary knowing I need the extra care.

I'm sure by tea time tonight I'll just be overjoyed that I had the chance to see my bambino again

Hope it all goes well for you, it's natural to be nervous but if your 20 week scan was ok then this one should hopefully just be final reassurance

No experience I'm afraid but wanted to say good luck. I'm sure all will be fine and like you said it's always nice to see baby again! x

When I had fetal cardiac scans they lasted much longer than the usual scans. There was not much difference other than that. Afterwards, the doctor sat us down and told us her findings. Just relax and enjoy watching your lovely baby on the screen. It was pre-covid, but we were given some 3d scans as well as the usual scan pictures,

Thanks for your responses, the scan went well and as pp have said it was just so nice to see our babba again. He/she had a big yawn when we first started which melted my heart Flowers
