hi all,
I'm 23 weeks and noticing that excess weight is creeping on...
I havent really stuck to a healthy meal plan as such and although I don't think I'm being terrible with food I have been having treats.
Before I was pregnant I was doing slimming world on and off for a long time and actually enjoyed it but since lockdown thats basically gone out the window!
I want to get back into doing slimming world for the remaining of my pregnancy but having 2 of both the healthy extras.
I dont want to loose weight during pregnancy i just want to try and maintain a healthy weight.
I wasn't particularly happy with my weight before I found out I was pregnant (I wasn't over weight, I just wasnt comfortable) and the last thing I want to do is think 'I'm pregnant i can eat what I want' pile on the pounds and then hate myself after the baby is born... im fully aware that I will naturally put weight on during pregnancy, eveyone does, i just don't want to put too much excess weight on.
I do find now that I get peckish between meals and have to have a snack to keep me going til my next meal whereas before I could go without between meals and i was fine.
So has anyone followed slimming world during pregnancy? If so was there anything you did slightly different?
Or do you have any tips that you did or are doing during pregnancy to maintain a healthy weight? 🙂

I’ve been doing slimming world throughout my pregnancy and am still 10lb heavier at 26 weeks. I feel crap about it but also have to remind myself that I’m pregnant and of course I’m going to gain something! I could easily have gained far more so that’s something to hold onto.

I think SW is a great choice as it’s really healthy and varied. Good luck. Don’t beat yourself up, it will fall off when the baby comes.

@Foreverbaffled 10lbs on at 26 weeks, id be happy with that! 😁 ive put on over a stone already!! Which to me im not happy with! The strange thing was when I looked at myself I didnt think I looked like i had put alot on it was just mainly my boobs and belly but I am starting to notice it now so I want to make a healthier change now before I allow it to go too far.
Have you stuck to slimming world as you normally would? I read that some people was having 2 healthy extra B's during pregnancy...

Don't hold me to this as I haven't returned to group since lock down and falling pregnant again but last time I was told 6 healthy extra. 2 b and 4 A's and that was the same when breastfeeding too!

Sairafina · 27/08/2020 14:11

Please please don't beat yourself up about weight gain! Here is a breakdown of where it goes:

Baby: 7.5 pounds
Placenta: 1.5 pounds
Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds
Uterine enlargement: 2 pounds
Maternal breast tissue: 2 pounds
Maternal blood volume: 4 pounds
Fluids in maternal tissue: 4 pounds
Maternal fat stores: 7 pounds

I have also found this tool super helpful www.calculator.net/pregnancy-weight-gain-calculator.html which allows you to track your gain depending on your pre pregnancy weight.

I’ve been doing 2 extra healthy A and 1 extra healthy B on top of the normal plan. So many people seem to be told different things. I think ensuring you have enough calcium is the most important thing.

I’d be happy with 10lb if I’d started at a normal weight but my BMI was over 30 at booking so have been told I mustn’t gain more than 11-21lb across my whole pregnancy. Feels impossible.

Don’t worry, a stone at your stage is totally okay :)

I am also concerned about the amount of weight I have put on and only 16 weeks, so I am trying to be mindful of the type of food I am eating. I used to do SW but I am not sure what exactly the plan is for when you are pregnant - I thought it is 2 Hex A and 2 Hex B but not entirely sure.

BabyG123 · 27/08/2020 16:56

If anyone could find out about hex I'd be interested!

The only reason I'm grateful for morning sickness is the lack of eating I've done 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Cr17 · 27/08/2020 17:13

@oldermama2021 I've read that people doing SW was having 2 hex A's and 2 hex B's - this is what I think I might start doing and start weighing myself a little bit more regularly (i avoid weighing myself)

@BabyG123 I had the same during the first trimester... i felt sick all the time (wasn't physically sick) so I pretty much had a plain foods all the time and was eating as I knew i had to... second trimester the sickness has gone away and I'm loving food again.... clearly 😁

@Cr17 mine comes and goes in waves but 20 weeks already so don't think it'll go 🤪

I'd like to eat healthier though

wigglerose · 27/08/2020 21:30

I'm in a similar position. I had a month of not watching what I was eating when the morning sickness lifted, and I'm 6lb heavier than I want to be and some size 14 maternity jeans I bought are too tight on my hips so I'm doing low-impact exercise and watching what I eat - no sweets, no puddings, no takeaways, and no snacks between meals. Not dieting, just being careful.

lockdownpregnancy · 27/08/2020 22:34

Nearly 36 wks and 45lb heavier! Still only gone up to a size 12, so it's like I'm growing a lump of lead for a baby! 😂
I'm not a happy bunny but there's sod all I can do about it now! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Married2019 · 28/08/2020 09:14

37+2 here and I've stopped weighing myself since finding out I've put on 40lbs!! My BMI was 27 when I got pregnant.. Some people have said I'm huge, where as other people have said you cant tell im pregnant apart from my belly / it's clearly all baby... At this point, I don't really care. I ate barely anything in my first trimester, was following SW during my second and since then have eaten what I want within reason - never feeling like I was eating 'to excess' and ive still gained loads.. The hard work will come once I'm post partum, for now I just want baby healthy and to be able to finish my apple juice (baby adores fruit juice apparently!) 😘 good luck ladies x
