Hi all, sorry for the TMI but I have the WORST constipation ever, sometimes I’m not going to the toilet for days on end... I’m currently 10 weeks, this is my second pregnancy after MMC earlier this year, so I don’t really want to take medication unless I really need to - I’ve been reading about prune juice etc but I can’t stomach that at the minute due to nausea ... any recommendations on what is best to help?? This can’t carry on!!x

Hi !
I went through the same thing at the beginning. I tried to eat as much fruit as possible as I found that non offensive to my stomach when I was feeling sick. If you can't face solid food just drink loads of water as it will help loosen it & won't be so hard.
To be honest though nothing helps majorly, it just passes after a couple of weeks!

Get some lactulose from a pharmacy! It's helped me loads since about 9 weeks

Porridge & pears for breakfast helped me with loads of water during the day. Prune juice never did a thing.

Once you work out what works for you stick to it religiously.

Good luck

If you can face Weetabix or cherrios for breakfast. I couldn't face bran flakes.

Kiwifruit. Lactulose from Chemist.

It just gets worse, sorry! Make sure you drink plenty of water and I used fibogel as that worked well for me. Porridge for breakfast and fresh orange every morning. Best to try and get into a regime that works now before you end up with horrific pregnancy piles.

I had constipation from weeks 8-19. I tried all sorts but couldn’t stomach prunes or anything else. In the end I got some high fibre cereal, not bran flakes but like a chocolate Sainsbury’s version which helped massively with me. I made sure I had it for breakfast every morning and makes me go regular now

Get on the lactulose. It just gets worse, make life easy on yourself. If you carry on being constipated you're likely to get piles which makes giving birth so much worse.

Ahhhh thank you all so much for your tips!! I think this is where I’ve been going wrong, I’ve been having so much toast for breakfast because of the nausea... Time to purchase more fruit, porridge, cereals and lactulose!!xx

FIGS. Preferably fresh. If not, dried are fine but drink water to accompany them. You will be feeling much better!
