Hey guys. Hoping someone can help me make head or tails on folic acid and vitamin D amounts. I went to buy both today at my pharmacy but the amounts shown aren’t in mg so have no idea what amount I need or to buy. I ask the assistant at the pharmacist who thought I’d need a prescription from the doctor which didn’t sound right. Anyone experience this?

Was the vitamin D in IU? 1ug is 40IU so 10ug would be 400IU which is the recommended amount to take

NinaCoco · 24/08/2020 16:59

Yeah everything was in IU which I didn’t understand at all. Thanks for the help

It's recommended that you take:

400 micrograms offolic acid every day – from before you're pregnant until you're 12 weeks pregnant

Children from the age of 1 year and adults need 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day. This includes pregnant and breastfeeding women, and people at risk of vitamin D deficiency.

You can order some from Holland and Barrats that are pregnancy ones and they have the right amount it and you only need one tub... x

NinaCoco · 24/08/2020 18:38

Yeah folic acid in ug. I’m aware of the amounts it tells you to take but when you get in the shops it’s measured differently so a bit confusing lol.

Will try Holland’s and Barrett’s though!

@NinaCoco I ordered online and checked with the midwife and she said they were completely fine so felt reassured.
Hope that helps
