On the back of another thread I’m on, I wondered what outfits/sleepsuits people used as their first outfit and coming home outfits?
I’m 30 weeks with a baby girl and have a few cute bits that I’ve got in mind but was just being nosey and wanted to see other people’s cute outfits!

I'm another one who bought a 0-3 "first outfit" that had no chance of fitting, he did wear it briefly while waiting for DH to bring more clothes, but think it got pee on it, as a nappies also didn't fit.

Fortunately we were given a bag of second hand bits including first size from a friend of my mums, only got it a few days before so hadn't even had chance to sort it. DH just bought the whole carrier in to hospital, so just had to rummage through for something that looked like it might fit.

For DD I had a first size outfit, but she still ended up in a hat and cardigan I'd never seen before. She was an ELCS and we were told to bring down hat, vest and onesie, and leave everything else in the room. She was dressed while I was getting sewn up, but apparently our hat was (still) to big, and she was to cold, so they got the hat and cardy from the supply volunteers knit for them (I think using doll size patterns, as she was quite small).

I was a crazy hormonal women, and absolutely loved the cardigan, so I'm ashamed to say I stole it and she also came home in itBlush

(Backstory, if it makes it any better, several family members knitted lovely cloths for my eldest and I was quite put out that no one bothered for my second, I felt like they thought she was less important (^ see crazy hormonal woman), I wanted her to have something homemade too.)

a navy babygro with large red roses (from the charity shop) and a red snowsuit (JoJo Maman Bebe).

DappledThings · 24/08/2020 20:35

No idea for either of them. Had a pile of random sleepsuits in the bag and they went home in whichever one had been most recently pulled from the pile and put on them.

"Going home outfits" are one of a list of things I've only ever heard of on MN and never known anyone make a thing of in real life.

Bought a 0-1 month pack - One pale green, one lemon, one with a red pattern. DS wore the lemon one; 3.5 years later so did dd.

I still have it. They are 25 and 22.

DS outgrew it in about two weeks. DD was more than 1.5lb heavier and it fitted once Grin.

Wasn't as usual to know the sex in advance then.

Someone else may have said this already - don't count on the outfit staying clean long enough to make it home. DS 1 went through 3 babygros in his first few hours of being dressed! Take spares... (in answer to your question he had a 3 pack of lovely babygros from M&S and a hat my nephews had all worn, plus a blanket DH had had knotted for him when he was a baby.

EssElsiee · 24/08/2020 20:48

I had a cute outfit planned but it ended
Up being 37 degrees and he just ended up in a vest! X

RedRumTheHorse · 24/08/2020 21:42

Mine wore one of two multi-coloured babygros in newborn size, a vest and a hat.

I had to look at pictures to narrow down which two it was due to lack of sleep on the postnatal ward.

They fitted her for about 2 months as she was under 6 pounds. She actually had a growth spurt after she was weaned.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/08/2020 21:46

Wee soft trousers and t-shirt with matching cardigan and bootees from Next.
There was a hat too with a bee on it where there eould normally be a bobble.
She looked very cute.

Purplequalitystreet · 24/08/2020 21:49

A white Next Born in 2019 babygro with a giraffe on it and a white cardigan knitted by Nanna.

nowaitaminute · 24/08/2020 21:50

1st baby was just a plain white babygrow and cardigan

2nd baby was a rainbow baby so he wore the babygrow in the pic attached 💕

I'd bought a gorgeous "first size" dress with cats on for DD to come home from hospital. Put it on her just before we were due to leave and it literally fell off her (she went straight through the neck hole). She came home in a tiny baby plain white onesie...and I didn't think she was particularly tiny at 6 lb 6oz! She finally fitted the dress at 5 weeks old for about 3 days.

ChelseaCat · 24/08/2020 22:08

Another one in tiny baby clothes! Plus homemade cardigan and hat ❤️ (December!)

Oh, and I chose a baby grow in 0-3 month size for coming home, thinking it might be a bit big, but it would last longer. It was huge on her of course. She still had to wear it though. After 4 days in hospital we’d run out of all the other (newborn size) baby grows!

catfeets · 24/08/2020 22:19

Pretty much the same a @emwithme. She was born in February and although 7lbs, was tiny. We'd bought 2 beautiful first size dress and cardi combos - for the photos with a spare in case she exploded from either end before photos could be taken.
Not only would she have drowned in either of the outfits due to size, we were thrown out before the bounty photo lady came as they were moving the whole ward so anyone who was vaguely well enough to stand was told to go home.
She actually went home in a blood stained hat a nurse put on her and a plain baby gro.

futuredreams · 24/08/2020 23:10

@nowaitaminute - where's the rainbow onesie from? It's lovely

foxyroxyy · 24/08/2020 23:12

M&S organic cotton white baby grow with hat.

Bluebell9 · 24/08/2020 23:17

I had a gorgeous little Joules baby grow for DD to wear coming home from the hospital.
She ended up coming home in a completely different one as I'd had to change her so many times during the last night in hospital due to exploding nappies and I was so exhausted I couldn't bring myself to change her again just to go home!

UserFriendly14 · 24/08/2020 23:54

futuredreams

I’m sure it’s Jojomamabebe.

I had one from there, white with gold stars on, for DS to come home I’m in newborn size but he was too big for it. So it ended up just being a plain white sleep suit. I’ve not learnt my lesson as now 36w and DD has another one from there in newborn size- white with pink flowers and buttons down the back. Horribly impractical and not going to fit, I’m sure.

That being said, I was so exhausted as discharged hours after birth, that I really didn’t care what he ‘came home’ in by that stage.

Pipandmum · 24/08/2020 23:59

My son wore a blue onesie with something green on it - I can't remember exactly, possibly frogs. My daughter wore a second hand white onesie with a pink bunny on the front and a lace collar.

nowaitaminute · 25/08/2020 00:02

@futuredreams it was from jojomamanbebe

Cineraria · 25/08/2020 00:12

My two wore nightgowns until they started sitting up and rolling around, so one of those would have been the first outfit they put on. They are great for nappy changes but not for car seats so I changed them into short rompers (like a long t-shirt that fastens under the crotch) to travel home plus a cardi, bootees and hat that I'd knitted. They were born end of September and start of October but in very warm weather, so just had a thin blanket over them as we walked through the car park.

AlwaysLatte · 25/08/2020 00:21

Very similar to this from John Lewis

Grandmi · 25/08/2020 00:26

It was nearly 27 years ago when my daughter was born..I have her hat still in my underwear drawer 💕
