Coil

Hi ladies,

I was looking to get some opinions on how the coil (IUD/IUD) has been for anyone that has tried it for birth control before. I have a section next week and have been told I can get one fitted at the same time but have heard some horror stories. I was previously on the depo but this made me put on a lot of weight so was looking to try something new. Please let me know your experiences of either copper or hormone coil and how it worked for you.

Thanks! Smile

Hi! My mirena coil has been really good because I got no periods until now (18 months later) but the periods are very very light to the point of not really needing even a pad but I still get PMS. It's also great not having to worry about getting pregnant but I get sharp twisty pains quite a lot which although aren't unbearable, are not pleasant and go down my leg. I am getting that checked out just in case! No other side effects from that and if anything I lost weight Grin

I have had the Mirena Coil fitted twice, most recently was also following a c-section.

I've never had any problems whatsoever. It's worked well for me. I will say that this time around I did bleed for a good few weeks before it finally settled down but I believe that's pretty normal for some of us.

Personally I have found it the easiest form of contraception as once it's fitted you forget about it.

I know there are many out there who may not have had such a positive experience with it mind you.

I had two Mirena coils (for five years each) and absolutely loved them. No periods, no side effects. Could get on with life without worrying about periods and saved a fortune on tampons and pads. I wouldn't hesitate on having one again. That said, I know of two friends who tried the coil and had terrible constant cramps, so they got them removed ASAP. I think everyone is different and you don't know how you will react until you try it. I'd say go for it! If it works for you, you won't look back!

I had the merina for a small 7 months. I had to get it taken out because I was bleeding heavily for the full 7 months and gained quite a bit of weight on it. I had bad cramps and became very anaemic.

But a lot of my friends have had pleasant experiences x
