Feeling melancholy at baby kicks

I know this sounds really weird, but hoping that someone will empathise!

I feel my baby kick every day (23+4) and I love it.

BUT, I find that when the baby kicks me low in the belly, it gives me this odd feeling of melancholy which has nothing to do with how I’m otherwise feeling at the time (which is usually happy and excited to feel kicks). It almost makes me feel like I will burst into tears or something daft like that.

I don’t know if it’s because it’s close to my guts so reminds me of feeling anxious etc?

Is this something anyone else has ever experienced?

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Could be a bit of vagal nerve stimulation? Look up the vasovsgal response or reflex. The vagal nerve is responsible for the parasympathetic nervous system and has plenty of distribution in the gut - when its stimulated it leads to slowing of heart rate/low blood pressure so could explain the dip in how you're feeling? I didnt experience it will baby kicks but I had a bit of a vasovagal episode during having a coil fitted once. My heart rate and blood pressure plummeted and I felt dreadful for a short while.

That’s such an interesting and informative response, thank you! I’ve just read up on it and it definitely sounds like a possibility.

Oh this is kind of how I've been feeling, and I've been so confused! I'm 19 weeks and the movement is getting more apparent. For the last few days I've had this feeling of bodily (not mind) nervousness/discomfort/uneasiness - like when you've got to do something you don't want to do like an interview or similar - but really hard to put my finger on. Or how I used to feel if my clothes were too tight and I was under pressure (physical &mental) - but in myself and relating to pregnancy, this isn't how I feel at all!
I'm going to read up on this as I thought it was just me!!

I feel this sometimes at 20 weeks; a particularly strong kick feels somehow disconcerting, almost like suddenly remembering some unpleasant thing that's coming up soon, only it's physical? Very odd but it only lasts a second at least

I get this too, how interesting! I also likened it to hitting your funny bone!

Totally understand these! That’s exactly how I feel too. The funny bone description is a good one!

I'm really glad to see this thread as while I dont feel low after a kick, I do get an internal feeling almost going through my body. I'm 23+5 so kicks getting more regular now.
My feeling is a warm happiness, almost like a thirst - I cant explain it any better than that! I didnt even know how to google that but have a feeling we're all feeling different versions of whatever it is! Strangely I've had it very sporadically throughout my life but nothing like the regularity since I've been pregnant.
