Am I going to be asked to self isolate before ELCS?

I've just read something about self isolation before elective surgeries. If I'm having a ELCS will the same rules apply? I'm only 4 weeks away from my date and nothing has been mentioned. I'm now worrying as the children return to school just before and if my husband cant work he wont get paid!

I would be very surprised if you aren't asked. My MIL was going in for a minor op, the had to shield two weeks prior and a nurse came out 7 days before to test her. This is in Scotland though

My elcs is 3 weeks away and I've been told I don't need to isolate, I will be called in for a covid test around 48 hrs before though. Although my partner won't surprisingly. I just phoned the number on the letter I received with section date and they answered any questions I had

Hey, current NICE guidelines are to covid test within 72 hours or admission and then self isolate until you go in. Just you, not partner too. That's what were working to and I'd be surprised if you didnt have to do the same!

Same as @RP17

I had my ELCS about 4 weeks ago.

I was asked to take a covid test 72 hours before admission so I did not need to self-isolate

I'm not sure on the guidelines on self isolation for elcs, but as your awake during a section, the risks associated with covid are much lower. It would therefore make sense if the guidelines are slightly different from other elective surgery.

Is everyone else in other parts of UK then?

mistletoeprickles · 20/08/2020 15:55

Thank you everyone. I've been having a small panic but hopefully we wont be asked too

In Scotland 2 months ago it was isolate 7 days prior but could shop for food and go for walks (restaurants weren't open then)

I've just booked my ELCS, they said the usual procedure atm is to come in for a covid test the day before and then self isolate, however as I would be travelling in by public transport they said just to come in earlier on the day of the surgery and have the COVID test then instead.

I've just had my elective section date booked in 3 weeks time and have been asked to household isolate for 14 days before
