Experiences on Cyclizine?

Is there a preferred way to take the medication? Can it actually make you feel worse. I am 24 weeks and I was vomiting roughly once or twice a week. So I contacted my GP because it was draining me and making me feel weak.. and he prescribed Cyclizine. I don't need to take it 3x he said just as and when you require.

I've noticed it makes me very sleepy so I have to go to sleep and I feel this way for the whole day. I've been getting headaches and also I have been throwing up every day since being on it. Would you say this is unsuitable for me? It stops the nausea for a couple of hours but when it returns it is overwhelming and even more so before I was on them. I have been taking them twice a day so far but now I am considering stopping them.

I'm on cyclizine primarily but with a couple of other meds for extra strength if needed (metaclopramide and prochlorperazine). I'm taking it 2 times a day at the moment and usually take one of the others if I feel the nausea creeping in again.

I have found that it makes me quite drowsy after taking it, but it does help with the nausea and I have only vomited once (down from 4/5 'sessions' a day) since starting it.

It doesn't sound like you are getting on very well with it, particularly if you are vomiting more than before! I would speak to your GP about it and see if they can prescribe something different, such as the other tablets I am on. They all work in different ways, but be warned that prochlorperazine also causes drowsiness.

Good luck!

@HopeWish I was skeptical about trying them because I wasn't vomiting multiple times as women with Hypermesis were but it was debilitating the nausea day and night so I just wanted to give it a go but knowing my luck!

I always have funny side effects whenever I take medication. I just have felt so spaced out the past 3 days I wasn't entirely sure if it was working or not. I'll give the doctor a ring tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

I took cyclizine for severe nausea in the first trimester (wasn't vomiting but that was because I wasn't able to eat or drink anything) - it did 'zonk me out' somewhat but it was worth it (for me!) to not feel sick anymore. I took it every six to eight hours for a few days then dropped to just taking it once or twice a day. But it sounds like it's really not agreeing with you - you might be better on metaclopramide. I'm a chemo nurse and some patients do better on cyclizine and some on metaclopramide for nausea - there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. You shouldn't take both, though, as they interact with one another.

I took it, it didn't make me sleepy but I did find that I had to take it either as soon as I woke up or as soon as I started to get nauseous for it to have an effect.

In my book if a medication designed to improve your quality of life gives you side effects that have a similar effect on your quality of life its not right for you. Go back your gp and see what other options there are for you.

It helped me a lot in pregnancy, but as with any drug it is different for different people. Definitely speak to your GP again, there are other options.
