Sweeps that worked?!?

Looking for positive stories about sweeps please and if they actually worked. Im 40+4 and so ready to have the baby now, my midwife gave me a sweep this afternoon (which was successful) couldn't be done on my due date as she wasn't engaged. She said im now 2cm and could feel the babys head! Im hoping it works and sets of contractions so i can avoid induction at 41 weeks! Please tell me yours did and if you have any tips! X

My sweep worked at 40+3 (but I had been given 2 before it) my waters went the next morning.

My tip, keep active.

Rainbow714 · 19/08/2020 15:21

Yes. Birthing balls are great! Good luck. Flowers

Mine worked at 37+2. Was due to be induced the week after for small baby and they offered a sweep to try and avoid induction. Waters went next day and baby born that evening. Good luck!

Ah I’m in the same place - 40+6 and I’ve already had 6 sweeps. The midwife was able to feel the baby’s head at the 4th or 5th sweep, the baby is so bloody low and I am super uncomfortable. The weather was too hot for me to go for long walks and today it’s bucketing down! I need to get bouncing on my ball more - but every time I get it out my toddler wants to play with it!

YummyInMyTummy · 19/08/2020 16:04

Meant to say, good luck!

JaniceBattersby · 19/08/2020 16:06

Mine at 41+6 worked with number two and my one at 40+9 worked with number three. What I think really did it was after the sweeps I walked up and down for about half an hour with each.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 19/08/2020 16:13

I had a sweep at 41+3.
Midwife said my cervix was so tightly closed she wouldn't think I was even pregnant Shock
I went into labour that night and gave birth 2 hours later. So something did something!

Good luck

I have being having tightenings and srong like period pains for the past couple of hours, sounds silly but how do you know when its the real thing? Can't remember with my last child.

Good luck @YummyInMyTummy, hopefully you aint waiting too much longer to meet your baby. X

@Rainbow714 I had one today at 2.30pm. I’ve also had a few milk period type pains but no idea if it’ll progress into anything. I had 3 in my last pregnancy and can’t remember what happened after them! It seems that once you give birth you pretty much forget everything about the pregnancy and birth, right?! Good luck, you’re further along than me so fingers crossed for you.
Just remember, you don’t have to accept the induction at 41 weeks, I won’t be accepting induction at any stage. Unless there are concerns for you baby, just wait, he/she will come! A friend of mine had natural, home births at 40+13 and 40+16 with her two.

Do these look like evap lines or positive lines? Just wondering as unclear

Over here. I had a sweep with DC1 at 38+4, labour started 24 hours later (wasn't born for another 48 hours but I don't suppose I can blame the sweep for that).

DC2 first sweep wasn't successful but the one on 40+3 worked and he was born about 30 hours later.

You sure do forget it all @TwinkleStars15, they seem to be more intense now and coming roughly every ten mins - they feel like really strong period pains. I will be induced at 41 weeks due to high BP and babys size (predicted a big baby) i hope you aint waiting much longer - Good luck!

A sweep worked for me both times! I was well overdue with dc1 and due to be induced the next day, a sweep started labour.
With dc2, again overdue, I had a sweep and went home, gave birth within about two hours! Wish I'd started naturally but it wasn't to be.

Grumpy19 · 19/08/2020 22:00

@Rainbow714 that all sounds very promising! Good luck.

Rainbow714 · 19/08/2020 22:07

@Grumpy19 thank you! Hope it continues, going to try rest for a bit if i can cope, the pains last about 30/45 seconds each. Fingers crossed this is it ❤
