I have posted about this before but never get any straightforward responses or enough responses for me to feel positive about going forwards with a laparoscopy.

As it says above, yes or no, have you fallen pregnant following a laparoscopy or have you struggled?

If you fell pregnant after it, do you feel the laparoscopy helped and how long after the laparoscopy did you fall pregnant?

If you didn't, do you feel that the laparoscopy caused infertility?

I had 2 laparoscopies for endometriosis pain (1 diagnostic and 1 radical excision) 6 years ago I stayed on the pill for a further 5 years. When it came to trying for a baby I came off the pill for a few months and was extremely lucky and got pregnant our first month properly trying. I definitely think the laparoscopy helped. I had extensive endo and one of my ovaries was stuck to my uterus. I don’t believe I would have got pregnant without the laparoscopy.

What is the laparoscopy for? Is it for an investigation into infertility?

Last year I was offered one for investigation after 3 years of symptoms after having our son but I said no as I knew we were TTC number 2 very soon. Now we are struggling to conceive, so initially it was investigation but at this point now it would be for both investigation and fertility. X

It's a low-risk, minimally invasive procedure that requires only small incisions, so it won't affect your fertility unless it was specifically to operate on your reproductive organs eg to remove an ovarian cyst.

I've had several to remove big ovarian cysts and in one case my ovary as well. I then had a much bigger operation, cut from sternum to naval and a burst ovarian cyst operated on with the internal bleeding surrounding my reproductive organs.

I did get pregnant first time of trying a couple of years later. And again a couple of years after that.

I had a laparoscopy many years ago for an ovarian cyst. I then went on and had 5 pregnancies. The first one being only about 5 months after.

I had a laparoscopy in 2012 for endometriosis. i was diagnosed with stage 2 endo and had cells lasered off. Have had the coil/injection since then and fell pregnant almost as soon as my periods returned after stopping injection. also haven't experienced any further endo issues thank goodness. hope this helps you x

I had a laparoscopy in March this year for gallbladder removal and fell pregnant in April and finally pregnant with my little girl after 3 boys!!

Will add I only came off the pill beginning of April xx

Thank you everyone. I think that my biggest worry is that I have spent almost 4 years having tonnes of bloods taken, about 4 pelvic scans and one coming next month, and an internal scan with nothing found, but an ovary cyst which went away on its own by the time I went for a cyst growth scan.

I can just see them doing it and finding nothing because I'm so used to there being no answer for my symptoms. However, of course, I will never know unless I get it done and endometriosis seems to be the last thing on the list which can't be diagnosed without the laparoscopy anyway... symptoms are increasing each month so I am worried that by the time I get to have a laparoscopy it will be too late.

I am in discussions with the doctor but she is adamant to leave it until 12 months TTC number 2 (8 months so far) even though before we even started TTC2, they were happy to go ahead with it until I said no not yet..

I had a laparoscopy as part of an investigation into possible infertility. 6 weeks later I was pregnant and went on to have a healthy baby.

I had my second lap and then started TTC. It took 7 cycles to conceive. My ovary was attached to my bowel on the second one. I had my first only 2 years previously so it all grew back pretty quickly

Before your first laparoscopy did you also feel a little uncertain about if they were or weren't going to find anything?

I had one for fertility investigations dye didn't run through one tube. Tube was clear and nothing found. I didn't fall pregnant after but it did put my mind at rest it was minimally invasive bit of pain for 24hours. I have low ovarian reserve so specifically told the surgeon not to touch my ovaries if he found anything and he agreed.

@FebruaryJuly yes I did feel uncertain. I suppose because it was an investigation I was prepared for a wide range of outcomes.

Was your laparoscopy specifically to remove anything, investigation or fertility? X

I had three laparoscopies.

The first two were to remove a couple of huge cysts and adhesions (stage 4 endo), so I had a laparoscopy to start removing them, followed by 6 months artificial menopause (to let them ‘dry out’ and remove them more easily) and then another laparoscopy to remove them. Then I ttc and it took me 7 months.

The third laparoscopy was for adhesions only (no cyst) and I got pregnant after 3 months ttc. I chose to have the third laparoscopy as my consultant said I could just start trying and see if I could get pregnant, but I decided to just have the procedure instead of potentially ttc for months, then have it and ttc again.

@FebruaryJuly thank you! it was investigatory, but they found some endo while they were there, which they removed.

I also had a hysteroscopy at the same time to remove a polyp.

I had one, fell pregnant within 3 months. Might have been coincidence, might not! Can only help!

Mine was to aid fertility.

Thank you all, my doctor wants to speak to me after more bloods have come back and after I have had my 5th ultrasound in the 3.5 years of my possible endometriosis process! (my progesterone bloods came back boarder line). Then I think she will look further into laparoscopy but I still think she's determined to wait another 4-5 months until I go on the list! I wish I had just said yes to it when I had the chance a year ago now but thought it would delay my TTC.. xx

I had one as part of fertility investigations (TTC for 15mnths at the time), nothing was found. Conceived 9 months later - however as its so much later I'm not sure if it had any impact?

It wasn't too painful and I don't regret doing it.

Got pregnant a month or two after having a lap with dye after 3 years of trying.

I had a lap and removal of endometriosis after quite a few years of investigations for various problems, so many tests and scans. We were ttc for two years and I was pregnant the first month I was able to try after the lap.

I started trying for second back at the start of this year and fell pregnant on literally the first go.

I credit it all to the diagnosis and treatment of endo.

I had a laparoscopy in March 2019. Pregnant by Feb 2020 (started trying in late December) I had a cyst removed from each of my ovaries and have stage 4 endometriosis. Lesions are on my bowel and bladder. The surgeon 'suspended' a web of lesions to stop some of it attaching to other locations.
I wasn't trying to conceive prior to the surgery but the surgeon did advise that it would be a good time to do so in the year following!

@FebruaryJuly I'm sorry I meant to reply to this then forgot.

It took me a long time to get referred to a specialist, my GP kept making me try different types of pill and each time to give it 6 months etc... after diagnosing myself I went and said I think I have a lot of symptoms consistent with endometriosis and wanted a referral. the only way of diagnosing endo is through a laparoscopy and i was nervous that i would have gone through the surgery and there was nothing there... but i would rather be sure than not as i couldn't take the pain every month much longer... i really hope you are able to find a solution that works for you, but don't be afraid to challenge your GP, they get it wrong sometimes and its precious time if you are sure something isn't right x
