BV in pregnancy

Has anyone had BV in pregnancy. I’m 9 weeks & 90% sure I have BV, sorry TMI but I’ve got a very thin discharge that’s white/yellow, doesn’t itch at all, doesn’t smell “fishy” like often described with BV but it has got a smell about it, not overly offensive but not pleasant either, really hard to describe what it actually smells like. I don’t want to take antibiotics unnecessarily so early in pregnancy but also know that BV carries risks too. Will a GP actually test for it or just prescribe antibiotics. Just wondering about others experiences. TIA

They’ll probably test but you can buy balance activ liquid shot things in most supermarkets and they’re safe in pregnancy. (Obviously double check the box, but they were when I used last!)

BV is typically a sticky greyish discharge with an unpleasant fishy smell that’s very distinctive. If it’s not clearly that I would speak to your midwife and get a swab done to check. They shouldn’t just give you antibiotics without testing if you don’t have obvious symptoms.

Also as PP said, rather than take antibiotics you can buy vaginal gel over the counter which is safe in pregnancy and is effective.

I was getting similar and wasn't sure if it was BV or thrush - thrush can also present with a watery discharge. In the end I went with thrush and used a pessary which seems to have sorted it out. See your doctor or ask your midwife if you're unsure though.

Sometimes it's not fishy but more of a doggy smell
