Hey ladies my gp proscribed me lactulose as I have constipation I tried not to take it yet as I wanted to try the natural ways first but I can't take it anymore so I'm here right now taking it on the bottle it says start at 15Ml for adults how long does it work I need to go now😂!!

It's very gentle and much better than other constipation medicines in my opinion! It depends how constipated you are. They recommend taking it every day regardless of if you need it that day etc as it can take a day or two to start working.
I started on 5/10ml but 15ml is fine too (if it's bad) I found if I took it the night before it started working by the day. Also helps with painful trapped wind! Try and take regularly and not like me when I only took it when I needed it! 'Cause then you have to still have to wait for it to work 😩

Lactulose is saving my life right now! It works by drawing water into the bowel and softening the stool so make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

I have been taking between 10 - 15ml every day for the last month although have missed a few days here and there.

Like you, I did want to try the natural way but I've never been regular anyway and the pain was getting too much!

If you’re desperate can you get to a pharmacy for some glycerol suppositories? I think that’s the only way to make yourself go very quickly...

I am 39 wks and succumbed yesterday, I didn't feel like I could fit anything else in my body I was so uncomfortable.

I read the label which states normal dose for adult 15-45ml. I took 25ml and drank an extra litre of water (a total of 4l) and I went yesterday evening & everything was still solid etc (it wasn't diarrhoea). Prior to this I hadn't been at all since Tuesday evening. 😳 I agree with PP about suppositories though if the blockage is low down then it is hard to clear that top down, they would have been my next step. Good luck 😊

I'm glad you guys all had a gentle experience. I thought I was going to die with abdominal cramps, and had an hour or two where I wasn't sure if it was a fart or I'd crapped myself....and when I did go, the amount and loose was horrendous. This was with 30mls, so definitely go up gently!!

xxxemzyxxx · 17/08/2020 08:02

Don’t hesitate to take laculose, as others have said it is one of the gentler medicines to take for constipation. Unfortunately it does generally tend to take around 48 hours to work. It softens the stools to make it easier to pass through.

33 weeks now, and I took it only for a few days at 15ml a day to help get through a bout I was having, but if it is a constant problem, take it daily.

Fortheloveofscience · 17/08/2020 08:12

My 10 month old is on 15ml twice a day!! I'm sure you'll be fine - it takes 48 hours to work generally so best start ASAP.

Lactulose is good

It's kind of natural, in my opinion. It's the sugar from milk. So I was happy to take it.

You can try prunes. Dried prunes soaked in hot water. 6 I think? I remember reading something along those lines
