Hi ladies

Just feeling a bit odd today, wondering how you cope with the huge wait between scans? I’m 14+5, my 20 week scan is booked in but I just don’t feel pregnant. My tummy seems to have stopped bloating and I feel flat as a pancake and just don’t know how to deal with not knowing it’s all going ok in there! I can’t wait to start feeling movement so at I know they’re doing ok!
Tempted to book a 16 week well-being scan at WttW just to see me through

Hello!
I felt exactly the same, the wait seemed interminable and there was just no 'sign' of being pregnant. I was lucky and had no nausea, aversions or sickness so there really wasn't anything different! Do you have any other symptoms?

As long as you don't have any cramping or bleeding, chances are everything is fine in there! If you are able to book a private scan for reassurance I'd say go for it, even as just another chance to see the little one!

SarahFrances89 · 13/08/2020 13:08

I felt the same, it feels like absolutely nothing happens for ages at the start and then in between 12 and 20. Doesn't help not actually seeing anyone in person apart from scans I think, pre-corona midwife appointments in person I imagine feel more like you're actually being checked on. We got an early private scan cos I was really nervous of going in for my first one without my partner, if you can afford it then it might be worth it for the reassurance (and just to feel like there's some monitoring happening even if it's not NHS!) I completely get what you mean about not feling pregnant, I'm only starting to the last few days and it's def largely because I had my 20 week scan yesterday. Still not really showing (I'm big anyway so my belly is just rounded rather than particularly pregnant looking). Really hope I start showing more soon as I think that will help! I'm sure everything is fine with you and baby though, I had to keep telling myself there's this level of monitoring (i.e. doesn't feel a lot) cos you're low-risk and everything is well :)

I’m sorry, it’s such a rubbish time! Pre-Covid at least the 16 week midwife appointment broke it up, particularly if they were happy to get out their Doppler and try and find the heartbeat. Maybe a private scan? Or just see if you can hold on. I found all my symptoms went at that point too- so typical and nothing to worry about.

@MinesALatte I’m just going to give you the warning...that anxiety doesn’t go away 😂🙈 I spent 12-20 weeks feeling the exact same! I was desperate to start feeling movement so I knew everything was ok 😅 then the movements start...and then you worry because you haven’t felt them move in a wee while 😅 I’m just over 28 weeks and I still feel the exact same 🙈
I had a private scan at 24 weeks so that my partner could come. I wanted to wait until after the NHS scan at 20 weeks before going for private ones. But if you think a private scan would put your mind at rest then go for it 😊

MinesALatte · 13/08/2020 14:27

@RWK29 funnily enough I said exactly to a friend yesterday!! The minute I start feeling movements I’ll only panic they’re not moving enough 😂🙈

Thank you all for making me feel like it’s not just me feeling like this! So glad I’m not alone. Think I’ll book the well-being scan just to bridge the gap!

@Sairafina @SarahFrances89 I’m feeling the same, I think if I start showing I’ll know it’s growing and doing ok!

@Foreverbaffled yeah my midwife unit said they’re going to try and return to normal with face-to-face 16 week appointments but I’ve heard nothing so guessing it won’t be!

@Sairafina I keep telling myself exactly that, no cramping or bleeding but doesn’t help 😂 I have had a smidge of cramping, but really doesn’t last long thankfully

Midwife used the Doppler at 16 weeks and I heard a heartbeat which really helped me!

I have a scan booked in at 36 weeks, booked at my 20 week scan - now that’s a long time 😂

Rainbowafterthestorm · 13/08/2020 14:54

I hated the part between 12-20 weeks. I remember saying to my midwife at a 16 week phone appointment that I felt like a fraud. I’d had a miscarriage in jan and I felt like I was grieving too which didn’t help. The nausea had gone, I wasn’t showing and had no feelings of movement. Then after 20 weeks that all seemed to lift, movements are the best, I’m 28 weeks and I seem to have a little footballer on my hands.
We had a private scan at 16 weeks as my OH wasn’t allowed to come to 12 and 20 week scans due to covid. It was literally the best experience we’ve had. I booked something called a reassurance and gender scan (with a 4D preview) as a Father’s Day surprise. We didn’t find out the gender of the day but bought a gender cannon and found out with our family bubble later that weekend, sharing it with people seemed to make everything really real.
My OH booked a 4D one for a few weeks time (30ish weeks) as he wants to see him again.
In all honesty private scans are so much more enjoyable than nhs ones as it’s more a bonding experience than ‘checking for problems’, they last much longer too. They are pricey but check groupon for offers. We’ve done really well price wise with ours.

sel2223 · 13/08/2020 15:03

I booked a private scan for 17 weeks so I could find out the sex with OH and check heartbeat/growth.

Sairafina · 13/08/2020 15:36

I get the general impression that we shall be anxious throughout each stage of pregnancy (like you @RWK29 I'm 28+3 and the non movement hours are a killer!) and then anxious for the rest of their lives!!

Babba2801 · 13/08/2020 18:46

Im so glad private scans are easily available. I dont know how I could cope going that long! I have a 16 week one booked in with WttW next week as im so inpatient.
I also think its a good excuse as its the only scan my partner will be allowed to go to

RWK29 · 13/08/2020 18:49

@MinesALatte 😂 that’s ok, you’re definitely not the only one feeling like that 😊 Hope you manage to get a private scan sorted and it helps you worry a bit less for a little while at least 😊

@Sairafina You’re completely right lol, this is just the constant state of worry from now on 😂

sunlight81 · 13/08/2020 18:59

I booked a 16w private scan

MinesALatte · 22/08/2020 00:13

I caved in, booked the private scan last weekend and had it this afternoon! All progressing well ☺️🥰

Here it is looking away from us 😂

That's the cutest picture! Baby looks all snuggled up and asleep.

MinesALatte · 22/08/2020 15:12

@Pinkstars2501 hehe thank you!

@MinesALatte Did you cramp all the way through?

Al991 · 07/06/2023 23:10

You’re not alone OP. I admit to caving with the private scans 😬 just couldn’t cope. I think I had 2 or 3 in the end. Remember odds of anything being wrong are very low and something being wrong without you knowing even lower
