Am I in labour? FTM, help!

So I woke up at around 4:30 with intense period type pain that made me really need the toilet. Or so I thought. So I got up, went to try #2 but nothing happened. Went back to bed because I’m exhausted and I wake up a few times from the pain, having to turn over and breathe because it hurts so badly in my lower abdomen and back before realising this pain might actually be labour.

I’ve been timing the last few contractions; they’re about 3-5 minutes apart and last between 30-40 seconds and I’m freaking out a little by the fact they’re so close together

I’ve had BH contractions before but this is nothing like those, these HURT and come in waves. Being still makes them worse, so every time I get them I start waddling around but they still hurt a lot it just makes them bearable

I’m 38+6 and really confused because I didn’t expect contractions to feel like this? It’s a very sharp period type pain, idk why but I expected a more dull pain. They’re impossible to sleep through and they’re making me feel sick and like I NEED the toilet even though the toilet gives me no relief

Sounds like how my labour started. I'd call your hospital.

FreiasBathtub · 12/08/2020 07:25

Need the toilet like need to poo? That is pretty much how both my labours started. Keep timing and do whatever you need to feel better - the bath helped me. Good luck!

FreiasBathtub · 12/08/2020 07:26

And yes, as PP said, call the hospital!

ShirleyPhallus · 12/08/2020 07:28

You know you can only ask on here if you promise to come back and show us a photo of your new baby right?!

Sounds like it. Call the hospital to check. Good luck!!

Dazzband · 12/08/2020 07:28

Good luck! Yes it sounds like you're in Labour. All the best x

mummy2myJJ · 12/08/2020 07:39

Definitely sounds like labour, it's how exactly how mine started with DS! Good luck, hope everything goes well xx

Queenoftheashes · 12/08/2020 07:42

Ooh sounds promising and yes return with a picture ! Good luck !

Yep good old clear out before it ramps up, happened both times for me. Oh and a contraction isn’t a dull ache (as you’ve found out), you can’t talk through them and it feels like your insides are being turned inside out once they get going, deffo not an ache you’d be able to ignore! Hopefully the start of things, both my labours started at 38+6 and arrived at exactly 39 weeks. Good luck!

geemeister · 23/10/2020 13:56

I did a little laugh to myself when I read the OP as that’s how mine started. Woke up really needing a poo, couldn’t go. Went back to sleep and 20 minutes needed it again. Same thing. Only once I woke for the 3rd time did the penny drop!

It would be that bad but the same thing happened with DD2! You’d think I would’ve learnt!!
