Hello

I have 9 weeks to go and thinking of girl names! Hannah is the one we seem to agree on! We don’t really want anything too popular or common at all. What do you all think on name Hannah is it nice? From Uk Scotland. Thanks

You may be subjecting your child to years of ‘ no Hannah, with an H!’ But that’s not the end of the world

Does anyone spell it without an ‘h’?

Teapotdespot · 11/08/2020 07:07

I’m a Hannah and I love my name! Most people I’m close to shorten it to Han day to day. It often gets misspelled incredibly enough, I get:
Hanna
Hana
Anna
Annah
And once, Haner Grin

I live in an area where they don’t pronounce their H’s, so I’m very often Anna. I don’t really mind though.

I’m 29, when I was young there was maybe 2 Other Hannah’s in my high school so it wasn’t super uncommon, I don’t hear it much anymore though. Maybe we’re due a revival!

Love the name Hannah. It's beautiful.

I would have used it but my cousin is called Hannah, whom I'm very close to.

DoIneed1 · 11/08/2020 07:13

My 22 year old dd is a Hannah. Love the name ❤️

Millie2013 · 11/08/2020 07:16

I love the name Hannah, it would have been in my top three girls names, except I’ve got a close relative called Hannah

BikeTyson · 11/08/2020 07:18

It’s a lovely name. I know a few adult Hannahs and a 3 year old Hannah and it works for both. Wouldn’t say it was overly popular, you’d be unlikely to meet many other babies called it.

Dollywilde · 11/08/2020 07:20

Lovely name, a friend has an 18 month old Hannah and I thought at the time they named her how lovely and refreshing it was to have something more classic. Don’t know any others that aren’t in my own late 20s/early 30s age bracket.

To answer PPs I have a cousin Hana but she is half Japanese, and in Japanese Hana means flower (I believe) so not a ‘unique’ misspelling Grin

WhatWouldPennyDo · 11/08/2020 08:42

It’s pretty and underused, in my view. I’ve only ever met a handful of Hannah’s, but they have all bee utterly lovely (I have also never met an unpleasant Jennifer)!

FH27 · 11/08/2020 10:30

I just had a baby girl last Thursday called Hannah Smile

mable88 · 11/08/2020 11:09

I think it’s a lovely name, and as a teacher not very commonly used (in my experience!). The only Hannah in my current school is a member of staff, quite an unusual choice for small people. Smile

I like it.
And she's not likely to hate you for it.

MrsAmaretto · 11/08/2020 11:19

Lovely name, I only know two - 19yrs and 41yrs.

stuckasachildagain · 11/08/2020 11:31

It's name that seems weirdly popular in Ayrshire. I know of 5 primary school age and under. Not sure where in Scotland you are but seems a name that is liked here Grin

Snog · 11/08/2020 11:48

I love Anna but dislike Hannah!
Go figure. It's a popular name OP so loads of folk love it, but it's not for me.

LaureValadier · 11/08/2020 11:52

I'm a 30 something Hannah, (Han for short) and I know of 3 other Hannah's who are similar age- I don't know any little Hannah's.

I really do like my name- and it has never caused an issue, though spellings will vary. I see it as ageless, easy to spell, well heard of and symmetrical when written down.

I have been asked on many occasions if I knew it was a palindrome! adds a bit of interestSmile

Ploughingthrough · 11/08/2020 12:45

I adore the name Hannah. If I ever had another child and she was a girl I would definitely choose it. As I'm not having any more children it wont be happening but I think you should pick it!

Minty82 · 11/08/2020 12:53

DD has a friend called Hannah (aged 8) and a friend of DH’s has a 7-yr-old one. I don’t know any others. Lovely name.

ChatWithMe · 11/08/2020 13:00

It's s palindrome which is cool (spelled same way backwards and forwards) Grin

QuantamBaby · 11/08/2020 13:50

Love it - classic but not boring Smile

binkyblinky · 11/08/2020 13:51

It was one of my girl name choices for all three of my pregnancies- Hanna, Eleanor, and Leonie are my three faves.
I was blessed with three boys though, Cameron, Benjamin and Leo!

Comefromaway · 11/08/2020 13:53

Ds is 16 and I know at least 3 Hannah's in his year group at school.

Oncemorewithfeelin · 11/08/2020 14:17

@Aridane

A lot of people mistake my friends name for Anna, so a common correction is no Hannah. With an H
Pinkhan135 · 11/08/2020 14:36

I love the name Hannah so say go for it!

Love Hannah ! Wink

SacreBleeurgh · 11/08/2020 14:50

LOVE IT. We considered it for both of our DDs but it was just pipped to the post both times. Classic, not overused but easily recognisable and will be spelled correctly for the most part.

GoshHashana · 11/08/2020 14:52

I like it. It was on our list until quite recently for DD. If it helps, our other options were Esther, Ruth, Miriam.
