Okay...am 39+3, going for a VBAC so saw consultant for sweep this morning.
He said I was 60-70% effaced and 3cm dilated and did sweep which was very favourable.

Have been having strong niggly pains very low down on front of bump since then, not enough to time or anythign but definately soemthing along with constant low down backache.

here's my dilemma - DD is asleep on sofa, she is 20 months.
Her carer while I am in labour is MIL, who lives 3 hours drive away. I have no-one else nearby apart frpom friends /neighbours who could take her for a few hours in an emergency, but would cause untold hassle if I have to use them rather than letting DD stay at home.

Do I ring MIL now? Or do I wait?

Can't ask DH just for opinion as he is in very important meeting and if I do call everyone will freak out and send him home!

Forgot, one of DH's workmates is happy to come and sit here wiht her but DD doesn't know her veyr well, MIL is only person apart from DH and I that she has been left with for any length of time...

ow, timing them here, it's easier!

bluejelly · 02/10/2007 15:26

I'd call MIL now, esp if she lives 3 hours away.

bluejelly · 02/10/2007 15:26

And good luck!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 02/10/2007 15:28

Sounds like something is happening but sometimes a sweep can make you feel like this for a bit then it settles down. Its hard to say whether or not you'll go into labour today.

Did you labour at all with your dd, if so how long were you labouring for. The hospital won't really want you until your contractions are regular.

VoodooLULUmama · 02/10/2007 15:29

call MIL and get workmate on standby

if things progress rapidly you;ll have to disturb dh

how far away is he?

Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 15:29

You're probably right, but I wish I could get her to turn up just as I leave, she's an awful fusser! (you know the type, they follow you everywhere constantly asking if you are ok)

Will time a few more and see how close they are...am wanting to put inevitable off!

If it was my mum she'd be here already but she can';t get time off work

JoanWilder · 02/10/2007 15:29

just call her with an update...put her on 'alert' as it were. explain, see what she reckons, call her every hour/few hours and make a decision together,.
good luck!

Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 15:31

Didn't labour wiht DD so no clue what is happeneing!
DH is only 10 minutes max away, plus he is on his bike so can jump traffic, always handy.
Am not worried about him getting home in time as neighbours are in as well and can take me to hospital if necessary.
Workmate also only lives 5 mins up road so no urgency there either although she is in meeting with DH

Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 15:42

Ow, and another.

She is on alert after sweep this morning as HD told her I was 3cm so all her bags and stuff will be packed and she just has to get into car.

I have also just ahd what I am pretty sure was a show, basically very bloody mucus, is that normal? It was not completely fresh red but still quite bright.

meemar · 02/10/2007 15:42

I'd call her now, at least she'll be here for early evening if she's 3 hours away and can help you with DD if you start to feel uncomfortable.

Also, if nothing happens she can ready to stay the night at your house rather than have a mad rush in the middle of the night if you have to wake her.

Good luck - will be looking out for birth announcement!

meemar · 02/10/2007 15:43

Also don't forget 2nd labours are notoriously quicker than the first!

DoctorFrankenSquonk · 02/10/2007 15:46

I agree with meemar - call her and if you don't need to use her today, you probably will tomorrow.

Good luck

Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 15:47

OKay, but.....

does anyone else want to call for me? she'll get all squealy and silly and I'll lose my patience!

OP posts:
DoctorFrankenSquonk · 02/10/2007 15:47

text her?

Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 16:02

And another!

OP posts:
Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 16:04

haha! DH has literally just called as I was posting that to see how I am and I said that I was having pains every 20 mins or so, so he is going to call her!

Luckily IL's aren't staying with us, they stay in teh marina, but if they are here then it will take 10 mins for them to get to the house in an emergency so he is going to get them to come now.

Awesome!

Have told DH to stay where he is, he isn't due home until 9 and it means I can go to bed after I have got DD asleep at 7...I must remember to set alarm to wake me for 'that' show on C4 though.....

meemar · 02/10/2007 16:07

Oh - I love it when a plan comes together

Now, put your feet up - you might have a long night ahead!

VoodooLULUmama · 02/10/2007 16:07

very exciting, ,i wish you all the very best for your VBAC

keep us posted

Chirpyghoul · 02/10/2007 19:10

Well DH came beetling home at 5 'just in case' so is driving me mad already, but at least he can put DD to bed

MIL arrived half an hour ago as is ready for action 10 minutes away.

Still getting sharp pains every 15-20 minutes but they aren't really painful, more like squeezing. I just hope they pick up a bit tonight...!

Can't post very often as the PC chair is very uncomfortable so can only do 5 mins at a time....but will try and keep you updated!

OP posts:
Lulumama · 02/10/2007 21:53

try to rest, it might be the sweep has triggered some niggles, so try to sleep, and if you wake up in labour , you will be rested. if it is not 'it', things will certainly be moving in the right direction

empen · 02/10/2007 22:22

After reaading the thread I really need to know if you have gone into labour or not.
All the best Chirpy

Chirpyghoul · 03/10/2007 07:52

Morning all,
well I went to bed at 9 as DD had been up all night before and I was exhausted. Slept really well, only waking to pee and woke up this morning at 7 to realise it has mostly stopped

I am very demoralised.
And I missed bringing up baby

I still don't feel right, am still getting twinges and niggles and had another bloody show this morning but am thoroughly rested which is good.
Dh has taken the day off (perks of being the 2nd in command!) and we are off to tesco for brekkie.

Hopefully will have more news later....

OP posts:
Lulumama · 03/10/2007 12:25

things are getting going

another bloody show is good, potter around and do what you need to, rest, eat and drink and baby won;t be too long
