Hey everyone,

I hope everyone's coping in this heat!

I am currently 2 days over due with my first pregnancy. I had my second sweep yesterday & I am 1cm dilated so the midwife said she gave me a "good sweep" whereas previous one 2 weeks ago the midwife said my cervix was pretty much closed. So after sweep yesterday I had a bit of spotting which is all normal, started off pink and gradually went brownish to nothing. By this morning all spotting had stopped but I just went to the bathroom and upon wiping I had a fair amount of brownish discharge and this weird brown stringy thing? (Sorry if tmi) it wasn't huge probably about 1.5cm, was that maybe a part of the mucus plug? Has anyone else had this?

I get a bit of pressure and cramping every now and then (I have for over a week) but it's very mild and then will go completely. I spend a lot of time on the exercise ball, pottering around the house and being quite active but nothing seems to get the little one willing to budge 😂 I've tried the old wives tales such as spicy food, long walks, sex etc but nothing.
Yesterday when laying on my back I was having some awful pains at the top of my stomach just under the top of my ribs and would stop if I either laid on my side or sat up - when I spoke to midwife she said to just keep an eye on it as doesn't sound like contractions.

Wish this baby would hurry and make an entrance, I'm so eager to meet her Smile they've told me I can be induced in 10 days but I am so uncomfortable, achey, emotional, can't sleep, and generally fed up as I'm sure most of you who have been pregnant know yourselves.

Any advice about the discharge would be highly appreciated x

Mucus plug - normal to get a bit of discharge post sweep. Any fresh bleeding give your midwife a call to talk it through (small can be normal as well, called a “show”).
Good luck - the waiting time is so hard.

I’m afraid first babies are on average 8 days ‘late’ so she might be quite comfy still! Keep telling yourself you’ll be pregnant for 42 weeks and anything before that is a bonus.

As PP said, the stringy stuff sounds like a bit of plug which is positive and spotting is usually normal. Anything that would make you think ‘I should put a pad on’ should be discussed with triage/labour ward.

Thank you for the replies Smile

Soon after I posted this I ended up losing the mucus plug as there was so much more of it (sorry if tmi as it's not the most pleasant of things😂) I'm hoping that the labour ball starts rolling soon but if not it's 10 more days, I've managed 9 months so will tough it out the next 10 days! Just sucks in this heat 😫

Enjoy your weekends 💕

When my mucus plug plopped out my midwife said it would be a week at the most - 6 days later DS1 was born. But he was 38 weeks, so - as you’re full term - you hopefully won’t have to wait much longer! Good luck!

5 days over and feeling your pain! I've started taking my ball to the bedroom at night and bouncing when I can't sleep 🤣 haven't had a sweep or lost my plug so can't advise but wishing you all the best!
